  • I doubt the price hikes are a precise tracking of the UK economy. I started looking at that frameset over a year ago and it was less than $900. By January it was a little over $1300, now it’s over $1900.
Perhaps they just can’t be arsed shipping anything to the US anymore.

  • Seems like Planet X are selling a lot of e-bike/city bikes at the moment. Interesting to see how this works out as it appears (ostensibly at least) their strong suit is 'cyclist' cyclists who are after something fairly specific for not too much money. One of the changes since employee ownershp perhaps?

  • Probably a combination of supply issues with "proper cyclist" parts, their usual customers having got their bike-related spending done 4-6 months ago, plus increased demand from commuters wanting to avoid public transport while the weather's nice/sweaty.

  • I think they’ve sold out of their regular stock and are just selling whatever they can het their hands on.

  • Here's my Bootzipper 29er. With 27.5 wheels it clears 2.8 tires. Quite pleased with the total weight, despite being a "budget" build.

  • I ordered brushed nickel, they've sent me polished chrome.

I ordered BRUSHED NICKEL, they've sent me POLISHED CHROME.

Why would they do this to me?

  • On one bullmoose bars by any chance?

  • ha - correct.

Got some brushed nickel you want to trade before I go through the painful return process?!

  • No, I have chrome.

I was totally sure I’d ordered nickel but when the chrome arrived I checked the order and it said chrome so I concluded it was my mistake and decided to live with the chrome.

    Does your order say nickel?

  • Gah. I thought the same (maybe my error) but my order definitely does say Nickel...

If I needed them right now I'd live with it, but I don't, so they're going back..

  • I had the same issue. After four weeks of back and forth begging them to check the warehouse and compare the bars, and sending them links of what brushed nickle should look like I just gave up and kept them.

  • They’ve just got back to me asking for photos...

Thanks for the link, I’ll keep it to hand!!

  • I'm really not getting on with my genesis for a daily commuter and tempted to sell it and grab one of the tempests set up with sram force.

    Thoughts?

  • Another price increase from 350 to 500 on the Bootzipper 🤦‍♂️

  • whats no good with the genesis?

  • that makes it £200 for the fork... no ta!

  • @M_V @se1derful

Just FYI I never resolved the bar problem. They said brushed nickel sold out even though it previously said loads in stock, then when I asked when they were getting them back in, they said never. I've always thought Planet X unfairly get a bad rep. This is the first time I had to send something back and it was real painful. Mega slow to reply and never apologised or admitted they don't actual do brushed nickel. Wouldn't refund the initial posted I paid either as I'd also bought a couple of inner tubes and two v cheap tyres which no way would I have bought if I wasn't putting an order in.

  • They weren't Trailkings were they? I had a couple from them and the bead was faulty on both of them.

  • no, these were some bullmoose bars...

  • Bought a Jack Flash "25 year anniversary" raw 26er for £99.99+P&P=£115.

(also available with paint, for £199.99)

It's been a long time coming but the day has finally arrived for Jumping Jack Flash to jump again!!

The Planet X Jack Flash is so deeply entrenched in the history of both the company, and the underground dirt jump community that you'll struggle to find someone who didn't own one, or knew someone who did. In fact, we know there's still plenty of the original model still jumping today!

Rock solid build with retro looks, square stays, external cable routing and rear disc mount mounts. We've updated the headtube to take a tapered steerer but other than that it's still an unashamedly retro 26" wheeled dirt jump bike.

Raid the shed and refresh your old 26er. Pub,Street or Jump bike the Jack Flash is the Jack of all trades.

    A Head Angle (degrees) 69.0
    B Head Tube (mm) 130
D Seat Tube Angle (degrees) 73.0
    E Seat Tube C-T Actual (mm) 394
    F Chainstays (mm) 425
    G BB Drop (mm) 28
    K Front Centre (mm) 683.7
    L Fork Length(mm) 453
    M Fork Offset (mm) 42
    O Wheelbase (mm) 1107.2

    • Reach 435mm
    • Effective Top Tube 605.4mm

    Spec that's not listed:

Mine weights 2286g (5.0lb) inc replaceable hanger.

I calculate the stack to be 557mm.

Seat tube ID measures 27.4 by my calipers, probably reamed for a 27.2 post. OD 31.9mm so a 31.8mm collar is probably right.

Headtube is 44/56 for traditional or semi-integrated cups, so in codes you want ZS44/28.6 upper and ZS56/39.8 lower. Hope Type 2 and Type E.

The fork length is listed as 453mm. This seems equivalent to a 130mm fork at 25% sag (based on my Sektor RL with lost stickers being 485mm). For 2.4" tyres, 61mm tall above the bead, the head angle will hit 73.9 degrees at bottom out, trail 55mm. Unloaded, 67.5 degrees, 96mm trail. At listed fork length, 86mm trail.

  • Late to the party but what a build. That's tidy.

  • Bootzipper has now gone from 350 to 500 and onto 600 quid. Holy mother.

  • Been keeping an eye on it too... I wonder if that means people are actually buying them at that price, or it's just so they can claim its a huge discount when they go back to 200.
