shhh.. Bikes are supposed to look sexy in the photo's.. and then you buy them and make them ugly so they don't destroy your back/neck/arms/knees
-
• #378
I don't do 'sexy bikes'. You get arrested for that, apparently.

Planet X carbon track bike complete plus extra free set of 50mm carbon track wheels for £900. Crazy value.

Bastards! Don't you just hate it when you buy a bike and then 3 months later they throw in a free pair of carbon wheels on top. Wonder if they'd send me a cheap pair if I ask nicely?
-
• #381
They are a cheap pair. I'm no crabon expert but I suspect a decent set of wheels built up with something like Open Pros would be much better.

I had the thread on a quill stem clamp sheer this morning. The stem was bought from them in May.
Overtightened? Perhaps, but only because the clamp wouldn't firmly hold the matching 3ttt bars without regularly slipping.
James at Planet x has had pics and is arranging a replacement. Which I think is very good of them, as it's not a clear case of either faulty product or misuse.

Maybe a ridiculously stupid question, but recon i could use this: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/FRPXSPCV2/planet_x_stealth_pro_carbon_time_trial__frame_new_logo
as a road bike?? :P
-
• #385
Different geometry so it wouldn't feel as nice when using as road set-up. Why not get a road bike if you want a road bike?
-
• #386
yeah i take your point, it was more just because it looks so damn awesome...fail. Is the nanolite carbon good?

You know what, I say go for it. I'm 6'4" and I've
been riding around on a 56 with 14cm headtube for the last few months (it has a saddle to bar drop more akin to a TT rig) and it's bearable up to 50 miles. In fact the position it forces me into is damned aerodynamic so it's fast. -

Since having had my bike knicked on Saturday, I've started to look at buying parts to build up a new bike.
My brother-in-law pointed me at On-One/Planet X bikes, who he knows from Mountain biking, and I've had a look at their site, and am mighty tempted by one of their Pompetamine frames (http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/FROOPOMPET/on_one_pompetamine_cro_mo_urban_frame).
Does anyone have any experience of them? For some odd reason the idea of a glow in the dark bike is really appealing.

I did search, but obviously for the wrong thing!

Wondering if anyone knows whether the hubs are Novatec? cos the description says Large flange hubs with sealed bearings.Which implies Novatec as opposed to the none sealed Quandos
cos if they're novated they seem to be a good deal.
Thoughts?

In some of the pictures they're Novatec (or rebranded Novatec, which is what PX's own track hubs are), and in some pics they're Quandos. So it's a risk, although the description does say sealed bearings.

Yeah it's the "sealed bearings" that's making me think they're Novatecs'. Hate uncertainty :S

Why not contact them? Only black in stock. No cogs included.

Howdy! The spokes on my current wheelset have become very loose and the bike shop have advised me that I'm looking at a full re-build with new spokes so it's time to buy some new wheels.
Just wondered if anyone has any experience using either the Planet X Model B Wheelset (http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/WPPXMODELB/planet_x_model_b_wheelset) or the Planet X AL30 Wheelset (http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/WPPXAL30/planet_x_al30_wheelset) and whether there's any useful advise that can be sent my way before I make a purchase.
Planet X customer services have informed me that the AL30 are exactly the same wheelset as the Model B aside from their deeper rim which I'm not particularly concerned about. Would rather save the £20 and get the Model B's although I'm still waiting to hear back as to whether there are any available in silver.
Any help or advise would be much appreciated, thanks!

Have used several pairs of model-b's very good and very light wheels for the price, I would certainly recommend them, provided that you aren't a heavy/hard rider.
