  • Inclusive?

  • Gees what was the temperature of that at the weekend !?? Im a wuss, bit chilly for me yet... plus my wetsuit is still a bit snug ! ( damn chocolate !)

    12 degrees - a warm bath really

  • Inclusive?

Meaning accessible to all. Including disabled swimmers.

  • that's what I thought, but I also didn't think that was a new thing in tri? might be wrong, often am!

  • Right, thats it. Last swim done until Saturday now.
Am really beginning to worry about this pool, as it is so choppy when busy. Its like swimming in the sea !
Its definitely a slower pool to where I swam it last time. Oh well.........

  • going for a quick swim tonight and definitely going to do masters on thursday. my need for general fitness training outweighs my desire to be rested for saturday.

  • Good luck Nick Nack!
Don't worry about the pool, I am sure you will be fine. I m off to the pool this afternoon, after the lunchtime busy period, when I might even get a lane to myself, of beautiful calm water. I still have a bit of a cold so won't be doing too much, but I don't want to lose the fitness I gained just because I have a little cold!

  • I must admit to being pleased, and to be honest I was a bit scared of the distance so kept a bit in reserve. I was planning to go swimming this afternoon, but I have a sore throat and a sniff, so I am watching the bike racing on the telly instead. As soon as I feel OK I am going to have a go at swimming the same distance a bit harder, so I can see how close I get to you peeps! (with my size 11 feet!)
I am keen to see how you get on with suits, because I fancy swimming in the river soon (I live close to the Thames!) but it is way to cold for me to be in the water for any length of time. Quite a few people do it in the summer, seems more fun than a chlorinated pool.

they have a name for that these days, its 'wild swimming' (i.e what everyone used to do before H&S came along) lots of nice books on it now.
probably been said before but riding up to hampstead ponds in summer, belting out a few circles, then sliding back down the hill has to be one of the best London experiences going.
I really want to check out some exotic places like Droitwich spa this summer.

me too man. i can't wait to get a wetsuit and get up to the ponds.

  • Dooks, I have a large ladys orca you can borrow if Nick Nacks doesn't work out... the more use it gets the happier I become!
Good luck with all these swimathons people!

  • adroit - I think I spent the best part of 5 to 6 weeks at the beginning of this year with some kind of cold/virus..... I kept swimming though, although I dont advise it !

I swam before work and now I am ready for Sleeping ! Zzzzzzzz zzz zz

    i'm not a lady!

thanks for all the sweet offers though!

but i'm just about to hire (a man's large*) one from here:

    *that's right, look impressed.

  • Dooks, £50 for a season is lots.... I just ended up buying one when I did a couple of Tris last year/year before. If you might need to hire one next season, then just buy one. I mean what if you want to go surfing down in Cornwall over the winter? Kind of a handy thing to have.

  • true true. i used to have a couple of winter surfing suits when i was younger... and thinner. ahhhh.

  • ok so. advice needed here. I might have accidently agreed to take part in the Virgin London triathlon. I will be doing the 1500 metre swim. in the thames. I was last in a pool 4 years ago. have only ever been in the pool when I was younger and that was always mucking about not actually swimming.
my question? is it realistic that I can be train myself up to do 1500m in time (31st July) without: any prior experience of proper swimming, no formal lessons (either prior or planned), any good swimming style (tend to use arms to pull and no good at using legs to push), very little time to actually get to the pool between now and then (once maybe twice a week)

  • oh and I dont even like going in the sea! WTF am i doing?

  • one or two swims a week should be enough to help you get thru it. it might not be pretty tho, good luck.

  • oh and I dont even like going in the sea! WTF am i doing?

at least the Thames isn't the sea :)

  • it might as well be to a novice. guess i need to read through this whole thread to see if there are any tips...

  • you'll be fine. some tips here, some in the triathlon thread, millions on google.

top tip, get some coaching - swimsmooth or similar.

  • Jaitch - What is your main stroke ? Can you do breast stroke or front crawl ?

This is basically 40 laps of a normal 25 metre pool..... but in open water ?

  • ^ 60 x 25 for 1500

  • Apologies, I was thinking of my local 30m pool which is 50 x and decided to minus 10 instead of add !! (which I should know, because my thursday lunch swim is in a 25m pool !!)

Glorious day ! - wish i was sciving off and playing about in hampton pool right now !

  • saw that yeah^^^^
pretty good show actually, some great places he visited.
saw the bible 'Waterlog' by Deakin in his hand....

he did turn on the waterworks himself a few times,

    luvvies eh?
