That was fun!
Probably only did 1.5km but holly (my labradoodle) trotted along the bank and 3 times I looked up and found her swimming alongside me!

Picture!
This was after I first got in and turned round to see holly right behind me, unfortunately my wife was laughing too much to take a picture before holly had decided it was too far and decided to head back to dry land!

Speaking of which, Sally from Cally Masters (one of the lovelier long-term regulars) is in the Graun today:

Went swimming this morning and in a mixture of hungover foolishness and braveness did my second lap without a wetsuit, it was actually really nice!

Any suggestions of quiet river swim spots around London? I'll be up for a few days soon and haven't been swimming in years. It'll probably just end up sunbathing and splashing around a bit. I don't particularly fancy riding massive distances to get to a spot but don't mind getting the train and riding a bit at either end.
Lets do 18th
I can meet people at the station, it is only a 10 minute ride from there, or does anyone want to organise a ride from London?Late to the party I know, but can I come along for this? I'm happy to lead a ride from London.

Would be nice to ride out, I'll probably train it home though.

There's talk on the wild swimming thread about a trip to Clifton Hampden...

on the 31st.
Also, there's always Port Meadow- I'd be happy to lead a ride up there. -

I could ride from Reading (as I live there!) towards you and meet up, and ride back to the swimming spot (s!) The festival is being set up at the minute which rules out one of the good spots, but there are some more I know!

Cos i iz skinny fucker. No matter how much cold water acclimatisation I do, will never manage sans wettie without putting on 6 stone.
NB - this was a 2 person relay, my mate had booked a solo but couldn't do the whole thing after an op screwed his training. Here's the track: http://cspf.co.uk/swim-routes/OWI3N2JjZWZmNmEzMTBlYTNmNjcyY2U3MDY2YTU0ZTiYgvtfO0ic4I0kjLn2KG1hpvOBeG31Sf0PtB0RIa6ZGgsO1NFlvBolx7SL2b2mb0qHT4Jmzcf7MeUqS65KnNnQuQARZBZnzK4zUTGlmkBWcaklxCf9lK1ua9g2N2tHNFPlHd5taXwJP0rY4XHKFisM

Knightlancer, that's fucking insane. Chapeau, or whatever the swimming cap alternative is.

Ditto. A couple of years ago I did a 3.8k race non-wetsuit in water temps that reportedly in the low 20s (FAR warmer than the channel). I was c.20% slower than my wetsuit time and when I dragged myself out the water I have a half hour memory blackout which apparently culminated with a mate wondering where I'd got to and finding me sat in my car not knowing where I was. [/csb]

Presumably this is the GPS track for the support boat? Is there any way of seeing which legs were done by each swimmer? How did you share the swimming?

We did 90 mins each for most of the way. As we got to France inshore, we were tiring and our strokes were getting ragged after about an hour, so we changed to 60 mins. In the end, when we were trying to break from the flood coming north east (where the line kinks very near the shore), we each did a brutal 30 mins to get through. Then we both got in and swam to shore together. It was on a sunny beach, and we had a welcoming committee of locals who tested my GCSE French. They presented us with some shells as souvenirs.
We don't have any way of showing who did what, which is probably good - my mate's the stronger swimmer and he'd have no qualms about giving it the 'well, I did two-thirds, really'! Bastard's already been on the phone today asking me about doing a two-way next year. I'm tempted.

Just had a thought about a swim really close to home. It's not as romantic as any of the locations that you've all done but it's a big mass of water and it's outdoors: Greenland Dock, Surrey Quays
Thoughts?
(I've actually swan there before many years ago.)

Going for my first wild swim tonight in the jubilee river, very excited, especially as the plan is to get out, throw on some shorts and go to my favourite pub!
