RIP Susan Taylor, died in the Channel today. Only the 6th death in 150 years of Channel swimming.
Two of my friends failed in their Channel attempts this weekend, one after close to 12hrs (still 6 miles out, tide was just against her all day), one who bottled it after an hour.

Nothing released yet, seemingly a young, fit girl, and there was a paramedic on the boat:

Her brother. He must be traumatised.

Also, watched a young chap put his wetsuit on back to front on Saturday..... then his mates trying to get him back out and in again in a rush....
I was sniggering quietly.
Awesome. -

Like riding bikes? Like swimming in cold rivers?
We're doing both on Sunday:

Any suggestions of quiet river swim spots around London? I'll be up for a few days soon and haven't been swimming in years. It'll probably just end up sunbathing and splashing around a bit. I don't particularly fancy riding massive distances to get to a spot but don't mind getting the train and riding a bit at either end.

I regularly swim in the Thames in Reading, if you fancy it let me know, 15 minute ride from the station.

Cool, I googled initially but all it came up with was places for serious swimming in wetsuits and stuff.

No, there is plenty of informal stuff. Two nice rivers, the Thames and the Kennet (I prefer the Thames) and several amazing gravel pits.
Just let me know! -

There's a nice spot right next to Shepperton lake...
There's a swing rope too. -

Do it.
can we have bbq too ? -

ride, swim, eat, drink, train. (for me)
or
ride, swim, eat drink, camp
swim, eat, ride. -

Definitely a barbecue. There isn't any camping very close by, and few wild opportunities (those wild ones that there are are semi permanent and pretty much below the radar, not sure if they would be amenable to having their needle and can infested lairs invaded by anyone not sharing their lifestyle) I will look into finding somewhere if people want to camp.
How are people fixed for 10 / 11 Aug?
