  • went swimming (not for fun but for fitness) for the first time since school (I think I left in 1999). Now falling asleep at my desk... I'm wondering how long my good intensions will last.

Not for fun ? So the whole session was like this ?

  • u need to find a picture of a drowning cat....

  • I have officially forgotten how to swim.
I've lost all rhythm and consistency stroke to stroke and feel completely out of place in the water, its really depressing me, instead of being fun swimming is a pain and a chore.
    I'm not really sure why.

(sorry about the pathetic post- its the first time its been like this, ever)

I'd say skip the training schedule and leave the stopwatch at home. Perhaps even skip swimming for a week. Either way, it'll either relax you enough to just swim for the joy of it, or keeping away from it will make you miss it.

Just chugging on might not fix it

  • I think its the other things that are going on concurrently having the effect.
But its manifesting as this agonising tightness in my shoulders, that I cannot shake- despite it not showing up in the gym/ climbing.
I think its core strength lost whilst at my desk.

    Stress.

    ??

  • Did a nice 4250m last night, one of those could have just carried on swimming days..... didnt go to sleep till 12.30am thou.... *yawn

Breaststroke kick is coming along, although now the whole timing has gone to pot and if i do get the timing correct then im literally going backwards im so slow..... knees and aductors are a little sore today.

  • I went to Gospel Oak lido at the weekend. I was suprised at how quiet it was at 10am and how warm the water was. Only managed 15 lengths of the 60 metre pool before I almost passed out. It's amazing how much swimming fitness you lose if you do not go near water for 6 months. Going to start going early mornings from next week. If anyone hasn't been and gets the chance to, it really is a fantastic pool

  • ^ interesting, would make for a nice alternative to London Fields as it's rammed at the moment. Didn't even enjoy it on tuesday morning at 8am. Spent half an hour of what felt more like queueing than swimming

  • A full honest to goodness 2 hour session with the Otters last night. Did the sprint set again as the distance main set of 800,600,400,200,100,200,400,600,800 looked a tad intimidating.

    Shared warm up was

    400 free
    8x50 kick on 1:00
12x50 in 1:15 in three sets of 4x50s with sprints at the start, turns and end
    200 easy
then there was faffing with 75 and 25 sprint... I lost track.

    Slow lanes sprint set was

    4x50 alternating 1:05 and 1:00
    4x50 alternating 1:00 and 0:55
    4x50 alternating 0:55 and 0:50
    4x50 alternating 0:50 and 0:45

Then there was some more kick I think (they do a lot of kick, these guys) and the last thing was

12x200s first 6x200s you'd do the first 4 lenghts as IM and the second 4 straight.
    Second 6x200s were pull.

That's over 5k isn't it? Felt good afterwards but exhausted later. Lost my nose clip and have a skull brim full of pool water today. Got very little sleep last night as a result. Jelly arms and snotty, bunged up chlorine sinuses. Nnnnng

  • Can anyone think where can i get a noseclip between Waterloo and Victoria (or not far off) today? Did a big session without one last week and i'm still suffering. Not doing that again.

  • They've stopped selling them at the pool.

Just look for a big bloke in that area and insult him, that should get you one.

  • You're a dick Oliver.

EDIT: found one in my desk drawer! awesome.

    I retract my former statement.

  • I am now a qualified ASA level 1 swim teacher :)

Have been in a pool lots this week but not to swim, its torture !

Cant wait for a nice long swim later today hopefully.

Dooks that is a ridiculous session !

  • Nice 3.7k swim last night, think i may have done a pb on my 1500, but didnt actually have a watch on so.............. typical :)

Back in the office today and I absolutely have to get a teaching job asap. I miss the whiff of chlorine !

  • After a mixed 1k warm up last night, went in for a 5x50 fly.
Went well and when i started the next set my shoulders felt even stronger, like after you've done weights and your arms feel lighter.... and then after about 200 the fatigued kicked in....... there after was the longest swim ever......... Most fly i've ever done in one set though :)

No one posting here anymore ???

Might try Spencer out on Saturday, if I can pluck up the courage.......

  • My gf & I would normally be thinking about a few open water swims around now, but whilst Juvember continues serious cba has set in, affecting pool swim mojo for me too.

I got a finis swim p3 a couple of years ago. I dont use it anymore. It is good at keeping you going over longer swims, but i just got bored of it. It has it's occassional uses.

  • hey congratulations!
