*facepalm. I mean he seems like a really nice man and he's obviously incredibly fit and seriously tough but a big part of me just gets annoyed at this kind of stunt. The prole in me thinks that only rich idle poshos ever get round to doing this sort of thing because... well the rest of are busy working. And that annoys me. And now you tell me he can't even swim properly... I think I could get behind a nice, idle, posho doing this if they were a swimmer, ex-swimmer, or had some sort of connection or affinity with swimming but this just sounds annoying. And how can it be "the culmination of a lifelong dream" if in the course of his life he never bothered to learn to swim properly? Gah. Whatever.
I just got in from Otter. 1 hour 45 session andIi made it to the end for the first time. Woo and indeed Hoo. I have no idea what the set was because i was just about hanging on the back of the lane desperately trying to keep up and didn't have the mental wherewithal to remember it. bit of fly, lots of speedplay, lots of kick, i enjoyed it. might well go again tomorrow.
now i've rehydrated with good stuff it's reward beer time.

he is going to have some wrinkly-ass toes by the end of that.
-
• #1034
and a wrinkly-assed ass too probably.
i haven't opened a beer yet. i may be slightly delirious after my exertions.

He may have improved since then, but this was last October ?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-15290415Perfect conditions he had ! I so want to do this swim. We are planning to visit other halfs dad who lives in seattle in a few years time (once we have some money) and I am so taking a trip down to san francisco to do this swim ! Yes-sir-ree .

Yes, it is really annoying. Some people are so lucky to be able to do these things. You know how he became famous ?? Blind date contestant back in the Cilla days !
Weldone with the otters.......... you know youve worked hard when you actually forget youre swimming whilst youre swimming.... do you do that ?
Sometimes i close my eyes !
Have you bought a Otter swim cap yet ? :D

No I haven't. I'd feel like a bit of a try hard noob in one of those I think. I do kind of fancy a paid of the hot pink drag shorts with "FAT CAMP" acoss the bum that a lot of the top lane guys are inexplicably sporting.

I thought he did that thing on that island that time, and was the only one that didn't come out of the whole affair looking like a baby eating psycho?
Castaway on Taransay island - the start of the reality tv explosion and a relatively genuine social experiment which did go a bit Lord of the Flies, mainly when the castaways started buying whisky off fishermen.
Think the island was sold / put up for sale recently.

ok ok, so thats what it says on wiki, but can anyone find out if he was on blind date ?
Im sure thats where he was first discovered, because of his toffy voice and ditzy ways. Maybe i am wrong.... maybe... ;)

They're training for the worlds in Italy in three weeks
http://www.finamasters2012.org/news.asp
They just cleaned up at the Middlesex champs last weekend and some of them are training for the Olympics. To be fair to the "fat campers" they do seem to a group of very quick but more "normal" looking individuals than some of the freakishly chiselled uber-athletes there. I didn't see it as ironic body facism particularly. I guess it depends who you're standing next to when you're wearing it doesn't it?
In other news, I took a lungfull of water on my first breath of a breaststoke kick set that had me coughing and retching for a few minutes. Got over it and carried on but I kept waking up in the night coughing with a pain in my upper chest last night and it's still uncomfortable today. What's best for that? Get someone tyo pick me up by the ankles? Keep coughing? Sleep upside down?

That would make sense. If I die you can have my goggle collection.

Yah, know a couple of swimmers going, one lady who is particulary quick and has won more than once on free and fly. :) * Plus she is only 5.2ft :)
Ouch thats bad. I would have thought it will pass.... if not go Docs .

I think the sea may be calling this weekend..............

Yes. Got ten days in Illfracomble in September. Been reading "Waterlog" as well. Can't wait.

Well that was a disaster. Second consecutive day Ottering. After ok warm up
800 choice
2x200 speedplay "at 800 pace" but sprinting for first 20m of 2nd and 4th 50m.
8x50 descending first 4 and building second 4.
Something else I forget...Ended up in the slower of three distance lanes. Main set was 800m straight swim followed by 800 IM twice. Got lapped twice in the first 800m and moved down a lane to a slower sprint lane doing 100s. Started last and got caught by the first guy before I'd done a length because it was so crowded.
Coach asked someone to move down again... no-one volunteered so I obliged but realised I was too quick for what was now the slowest of all six lanes.
Ego bruised enough and shattered after last night anyway I cited over-training tiredness and called it a day after just under an hour.
Sucky sucky session.

At least you got a session.
I tailored my day around going for a swim when the pool timetable said the pool was completely open.
Got there, guy asked if I was in the swim club- no, so you'll have to use the open section (normally ok- just get on with it).
Walk in, and its like a fucking water park with people splashing or not even swimming.
It has put me in a right stinker of a mood. -
• #1048
True true. Sorry dude. I hate it when that happens. Truth be told, I am shattered. I'll go back on Sunday I think. Can't be expecting myself to suddenly step up a level or five without some teething troubles. I'll take a couple of days to recover. Now. CARBS.

The bible.
Won't be long before sea swims as often as I can.
Seriously tempted after work tomoz.
Had a play with hand thingies tonight, really good aren't they. -

So this morning I was having a nice swim, and saw a distinctive gb cap in the next lane.
Turned out it was Rebecca Adlington.
/csb.
Ok, so I was really leathargic last night, but swam anyway. I know I can do better than this on a good day, just this wasnt one of them....................
750 1st fc @ css max - 12.51
750 2nd @ css max - 12.57
400 1st " " - 6.54
400 2nd " " - 6.53
200 1st " " - 3.22
200 2nd " " - 3.30*
plus 300 - back
300 - pull fc
300 - back/mixed with 1 arm
150 - swim down
3750m
SHATTERED ! Slept like a Log.
Surprisingly quite consistent through the css sets......... i didnt have any pain, but could feel my shoulders turning to jelly near the end. :)
