They look funny and make you walk like a penguin.

My road shoes have vents literally all over them- there are a number in the sole for example.
This makes them very pleasant to wear in the summer, less so now.
Ma3k is right about the walking like a penguin thing, so they can really only be advised when out for a long ride on the good/fast bike.
I have SPD's on all the day to day machines.

Buy them.

Steal Hippy's.

If you do buy them don't go for Time RXS- I regret making that choice, as with no float I have to choose between hip or knee pain on a longer ride.
Speedplay are going to be very slightly richer when I get around to it.

I may well be wearing Decathlons finest before much longer, getting home and pouring water out of my shoes is getting rather boring.

Time RXS *do *have float, don't they? Not the 'pedal feels like an ice-cube' float of Speedplays, but enough, Shirley?
Anyway, just stick to ATACs.

I use RXS's on both my road bike and day-to-day on my fixed. Works like a charm! No problem clipping in at all, very stable and comfortable platform, light and low stack height. Lots of float too, Time are one of the better pedals around for people with knee issues. Plus, you can actually walk around in Time cleats, no falling on your arse :-)

I use look keos. I've got big feet so spd's felt too small, could feel the pressure in my the sole of my foot.
Keos a lot better, feel a lot more stable and better power transfer etc, but they are a pain clipping in as they are 1 sided so you have to flip them horizontal which is hard if your cranks are going at any kind of speed. Stationary I find them easier than spd's.
They come with rubber covers which you pop over the cleat when you get off, you still walk like an idiot but you have more grip, without the covers its worse than walking on ice as they have teflon on them.{you can get 3 different cleats with varying degrees of float}

Dammit,
Don't know what you've done to your pedals in that case!!! They're the ones I have and my foot swivels plenty when clipped in. Have yours got the adjustment screw on the bottom? You haven't tightened it up, have you?

Always used SPD's & Time MTB pedals & shoes so am a bit uneducated when it comes to road shoes and cleats.........so I suppose my question is:
Whats the benefit of a road style cleat/clip over what I'm used to when it comes to road bikes....?
Any help much appreciated...

The soles are stiff as fuck. The cleat is wider too so there's less pressure on your foot (this effect is multiplied by the stiff sole).
why?
