Do you race?
Do you ever walk in your bike shoes, even 20 ft? -

they offer a wider support. some people feel that their foot is rolling off the side of the pedal with spd's so prefer the wider support of a road cleat. personally i don't have that problem so am happy to forgo the disco slippers for now. don't forget the pedals are single sided so maybe not as easy to get into.

Better power transfer, more support, lighter weight shoes and so on.

Road ones are better for racing and training rides when there's little unclipping and walking, but the trade off for leisure riding wouldn't be worthwhile IMO
clipping in with Looks etc. is a bit harder when you're riding fixed, catching the pedal to flip it, unlike the piss ease of Time MTB pedals, Road cleats are a cunt, even just putting your foot down when getting off you can slide arse over

I now don't bother with road shoes on anything except the good bike for when I give a shit about power transfer and long-ride comfort. All my other bikes run SPD now and with better fitting shoes are fine - much less likely to end up on your arse walking into the offie on the way home. :)

that's a good point, hadn't considered the fixed angle.
i would like a wider platform ( i do often feel like my foot is rolling off), and i never have to walk in them, which is why i thought they might be a good idea.
however, it is an expensive step just to try them out, so i'll probably leave it for now..

Would someone like to tell me the advantages and distinguishing characteristics of road pedals over MTB/touring pedals?
I am considering that they might suit me and my riding, since i never ever have to unclip on the quiet country roads i ride on.
