I've got a B131 that I want smaller but keeping some of the springs, how much?
Hi
Not so sure about chopping the 'skirt' off a sprung saddle. Someone asked me this previously, and I wasn't keen.Chopping is pretty easy. I can give you tips if you need some. Give it a try. But I'm sorry I don't want to get involved in butchering sprung ones. It just feels wrong to me. As for keeping some of the springs, you've completely lost me there. Is it one that has small springs stretched underneath the hide? In which case, don't make like an elephant: forget it.
Hi Skully, can I drop off my other Brooks for you to chop and repair.
Needs a little respect as its at least 50 years old.
The 17 is great.Glad to hear your lovely special edition is riding nicely. It's a beautiful thing. And one of my best jobs, partly cos the split hide was so supple and soft.
About the old one: happy to give it a go, of course. I have to say there is a point at which an old saddle could be too far gone, but provided there aren't any serious tears and the surface is not too brittle deep down, it should be worth a pop. I will be at South Drinks next monday, after a little ride round RP first. Come along! Also, I'm happy to take the B17 back for some lettering (gratis) if you can spare it for a week or so. I think GROW UP or JAMES across the seat on that one would be ace!Good to see you yesterday ben, looking forward to seeing my B17 next week!
Likewise. I have to say my workload might not permit getting it done by monday. Everythings going a bit mental. I'll pm you on Monday morning though, one way or another. you never know how much energy I might have come sunday evening.
Cheers

It's amazing - seconds after putting my Skullychops saddle on my bike, hipster women were DEMANDING that I sleep with them. I'm also 80% FASTER on the straights and my trackstands are 35% BETTER.
My life's amazing now, and it's all thanks to you.
Skully - you da man.

Stevo_com gave me this on Monday night. I chopped it last night, and added the lettering.
Quickest one yet! The lettering looks good.

GrowUp's nice split leather B17s has come back to me, now looking a bit smoother after playing some polo with it, for some letters to be added. Cheers James.http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_dxTMXEMzQxQ/SYAz0u1n7EI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/YjMFl2ahm2Q/s320/DSCN3856.JPG

Man, that looks sweet. Almost worth being sociable (going to drinks) for! Need to get a good enough saddle first though ;).

Buy me a pint, I'll stamp your name in a saddle.
Chops cost £20, lettering included.

don't know what I was worried about (i was never doubting your skills though buddy) the rails look pretty gnarly exposed and roughed up like that, kinda like a Swallow Mad Max Edition! Can't wait to get it back now!
3 CHEERS FOR SKULLY!

Pryally in Manchester sent me this brown B17N. First time time I've chopped a pristine new saddle. It was slightly tougher than one that's been ridden, but has come out well. Cheers Mark.

I quite like that drop at the nose - very streamlined, and complements the bit at the back too.
Wish I'd had mine done like that now - inverse shim Skully?
-
• #188
Umm yeah that's how Brooks make the nose, I done nowt to it. I prefer them lopped off a bit, but pryally was having none of it.
I think the lines I am taking for the side cuts are improving, reckon I got it just right now.

I meant the side bit - I'm not very good at saddle parlance...

Oh Okey. Yeah, you're right. It's suddenly developed from a gentle curve all the way along, to a quick curve at each end and as straight as possible (given that it's not a flat surface) inbetween.
If it's any consolation I'm now charging a bit more. And, I may actually be able to try a 'reverse shim' recut if you really wanted me to, no probs. Seriously.

• #197
Hi Skully
I've got a Brooks Colt...have you "done" one of those??? It's got lots of leather, even compared to a B17 so will need lots of chopping!

hey, is it still a pint for stamping? it seems like a good idea (theft protection).. and it looks pretty sweet! ...i was thinking about branding it ...but this seems a lot neater!
-
• #200
Yep! Or £3 if I do it at home. I usually go to East Drinks for the pint-as-payment option, if that suits, or let me know if you want to make some other arrangement. I live in E2 and am home tomorrow morning, for instance.
Good to see you yesterday ben, looking forward to seeing my B17 next week!
