  • lights on tonight, bring a couple of quid. see you there

  • AGGHHH! I can't make it tonight due to WORK. Balls.

Sorry I didn't make it down on Sunday. I woke up real late, realised I didn't have any money to get the train to London for the show in the evening and so Matt Power and I cycled down. It was fun.

    POLOPOLOPOLOPOLO.

  • Can I use your mallet again baker if your down tonight? (I know I know... I need to pull my finger out and make one!)

  • thanks for last night guys, a small turn out, but julian was absolutely running rings around us.

    freewheel on the cards now...!

  • If we ever get bored of polo...

YouTube - Cycle ball on Trans World Sport

  • I'd love a go . looks like your weight is shifted right back and bars help pulling the front end up . Must be exhausting though ?

  • i dont thank a day of being bored of polo will ever come !!! but that does look rather fun

  • thats insane! those bikes look similiar to the archie wilkinson speedway bikes, crossed with turn-of-the-century polo with the mental layback seats. 2000 euros though...!

  • That cycle ball is badass.

Sunday everyone? Polo then BBQ? Discuss the proposed tourney? Rad.

  • sounds good matt

  • How exciting! can i make the trophy for the tournament ?

  • YES! A few people have suggested (and I agree with) trying out one of the other courts for the day just to see what they're like/how the 'locals' react etc. It's also been pointed out, however, that if we start moving around courts we could lose our 'claim' on the Barnwell court. It's worth checking them out though, definitely. As Harvey suggested, if the Arbury or Trumpington courts work out we could use them for tournaments and keep the Barnwell court for our regular play.

    Discuss!

  • Good point Matt, however we should only plan on using the other courts for people heavy play, like the planned tourney. I doubt we will lose our stronghold over Barnwell, after all we managed to defend ourselves from Hugo Boss knife man. Scratch that as that is exactly what harvey said!

I'm going to do an Eddie shortly once i've finished gardening and cleaning and eating, and investigate the trumpington court and take pictures. I already emailed the City Council introducing us and requesting use of the court, with no success, so in the week I will try calling them.

Trumpington should be a success as it's so close to Waitrose with it's eco-hippy-friendly credentials (joke..), although Trumpingotn itself is a good 15 minute cycle from the city train station. Perhaps we should encourage folk to train to Shelford as it's less of a cycle?

  • ...I'm going to do an Eddie shortly...
is that some new slang now?

you're only rooting for the trumpington court because it's closer to your house than the arbury one. For me that's like another few miles longer, so 7miles with polo gearing or bike strapped to the back, and that's only one way!!!. I vote arbury!!! :) that's only a mile and a half away :)))

  • Yeah, the bad thing about both of them is fltuat they are far away from someone.

The only other alternative is the tennis courts on christs piece. Me and greg discussed it before as they are double courts so you can play along side the netting if that makes sense. Then we'd have to put barriers like we have in our goals along side it to atop the ball running under them/through the gaps.

  • Trumpington (Polo) court, just surveyed. Looks promising..

  • in fact, you reckon it was built by the same guys that did oxford? aside the open access, they are fairly identical courts. this looks a winner in my opinion.

    plus:

    • two tennis courts next to it, with open access, for throw ins and practice
    • waitrose nearby

Hoold ooon.....isn't the whole problem with tennis courts that there are huge pillars sticking out of the ground in the middle....i thought tennis courts where a no-no for polo

  • No way Matt, those courts are used a lot in summer. You need to find a place where there is high Xbox and Wii using obese populous who can't be fucked to get off the sofa. The city centre is full of ruddy faced students who were regularly beaten out of bed at 5am to run about in a field at their exclusive scottish boarding/borstals schools .
