48:19 is a rubbish gear. I felt like I was one of those cartoon characters, you know when the legs go round like crazy but they don't actually get anywhere!
Stick with 48:18not everyone is strong enough to push 72" in hilly areas
I will always say start low and then work up, that way you develop the muscles from spinning

Gone for few hours and look at the thread!!
I think I'll go for the 48:18 for the time being.
My legs are quite strong so I'd rather work on the cadence, but my previous 44:18 ruled out any accelerating once I was on the move. Just spinning and spinning like crazy.
Not unlike in those cartoons mentioned here! -

What would 46/20 be in GI? Only reason I'm asking is because I'm looking at buying the gold 46T sugino chainring in the classifieds and it doesn't seem like they do a 48T one (only quickly googled so please correct me if I'm wrong)

@Archi Pelago - what kind of fucked up maths are you using? Or was the question from a 26" wheel person?
46x20 is more like 60.5", and 46x16 is more like 76" (on 700x23).

Is your chain long enough?
BTW 48/19 FTskiddyW! -

Dooood! I was El Presidente of Chelsea Turbo Jugend... Unofficially, of course, I never got the jackets made, it was just me back in the day... Euroboy's band were also amazing, kinda like Santana x James Williamson era Stooges... Totally worked! :D

It's all about Happy Tom ;-)Happy Tom is awesome... (Not trying to sound like a cunt here but...) I rolled up at a Turbonegro aftershow and Tom collared me cuz I was wearing my Crime shirt, he immediately knew he was among friends (although that place was full to the rafters with hipster cunts)... Great, great band... They know their shit...

chain length
is it long enough to accommodate a larger cog?
Is your chain long enough?
BTW 48/19 FTskiddyW!I figure the OP is not going with 48/18 anymore, but for the sake of sakeness, you can move from 48/15 to 48/18 on the fuji without changing the chain. I just did it, innit.
