  • 46:18 = 63.6GI
    48:18 = 66.4GI

You wouldn't really notice the difference. Both above would be a lot spinnier to what you're currently riding. You're better off changing the cog.

    48:17 = 70.3GI
    48:16 = 74.6GI
    48:15 = 79.6GI

    Nice one cheers!

I think I may just get a 17T and an 18T and try both out to see which will suit me best

  • 48:19 is a rubbish gear. I felt like I was one of those cartoon characters, you know when the legs go round like crazy but they don't actually get anywhere!
    Stick with 48:18

not everyone is strong enough to push 72" in hilly areas

I will always say start low and then work up, that way you develop the muscles from spinning

  • Gone for few hours and look at the thread!!
I think I'll go for the 48:18 for the time being.
My legs are quite strong so I'd rather work on the cadence, but my previous 44:18 ruled out any accelerating once I was on the move. Just spinning and spinning like crazy.
Not unlike in those cartoons mentioned here!

  • What would 46/20 be in GI? Only reason I'm asking is because I'm looking at buying the gold 46T sugino chainring in the classifieds and it doesn't seem like they do a 48T one (only quickly googled so please correct me if I'm wrong)

  • What would 46/20 be in GI?

    57.2Gi
Good for track standing. But nowt else!

  • Jesus christ I'm dumb sometimes, I meant 46/16, all these numbers and ratios are making my brain hurt (could also be my hangover too)

Feckin hell. Make your mind up ;)

    46:16 = 71.5Gi

  • @Archi Pelago - what kind of fucked up maths are you using? Or was the question from a 26" wheel person?

46x20 is more like 60.5", and 46x16 is more like 76" (on 700x23).

  • Is your chain long enough?
    BTW 48/19 FTskiddyW!

Oops! ipod Bike Gears software set on 26" not 700c. I stand corrected Mr BMMF.

I can only do Tuesdays. I'm booked the rest of the week being VBs, Hippy's, Platini's and Pistanators bitch.

I usually get weekends off for good behaviour.

    More than A-Ha.
    Surely you jest.

  • Saw them live at the Garage a few years ago. Was awesome.
A few of my mates run Turbo Jugend for East London!

    My fav Norwegian band:

Dooood! I was El Presidente of Chelsea Turbo Jugend... Unofficially, of course, I never got the jackets made, it was just me back in the day... Euroboy's band were also amazing, kinda like Santana x James Williamson era Stooges... Totally worked! :D

  • Ha ha! My mates got the jackets made and all have 'special' jugend names!
It's all about Happy Tom ;-)

Happy Tom is awesome... (Not trying to sound like a cunt here but...) I rolled up at a Turbonegro aftershow and Tom collared me cuz I was wearing my Crime shirt, he immediately knew he was among friends (although that place was full to the rafters with hipster cunts)... Great, great band... They know their shit...

  • chain length

is it long enough to accommodate a larger cog?

    Is your chain long enough?

I figure the OP is not going with 48/18 anymore, but for the sake of sakeness, you can move from 48/15 to 48/18 on the fuji without changing the chain. I just did it, innit.

  • 50/14

  • 48/19 (FTW) is perfect for me. Don't know bout you tho.
