  • jesus (if he exists) rides 46/17

I did read that somewhere. Aparrently he also built some guy's hot rod.

  • It's a love affair.

    and cake

  • Supplements.

  • nah, it's lunch at the Chinese...

  • HTFU
    65+ Chainring
    FTW
    FFS

Get that up to speed and you'll only need the one skid patch! And about 200m of road!

This guy started skidding when he was 24!

  • Maybe there should be a rule in the highway code that says you have to run a chainring that matches your age?

  • I can think of a few folks round here whose IQ matches their skid patches.

  • Right, time for me to jump in with my obligatory newbie question.

I am currently riding 48/16 which, whilst a lovely gear for riding on the flat, still leaves me struggling up some of the steeper hills. Obviously option 1 is always HTFU, however, I'm going to be getting a new chainring anyway so I could just be kind to my knees and buy an appropriately toothed one. What would be the difference between choosing between 46/18 or 48/18?

  • FTFO is fuck the fuck off.

    46:18 = 63.6GI
    48:18 = 66.4GI

You wouldn't really notice the difference. Both above would be a lot spinnier to what you're currently riding. You're better off changing the cog.

    48:17 = 70.3GI
    48:16 = 74.6GI
    48:15 = 79.6GI

  • Going up to 48T will be even harder to push...Not by much, but it'd be better to get a larger rear instead.

  • 48:19 is a rubbish gear. I felt like I was one of those cartoon characters, you know when the legs go round like crazy but they don't actually get anywhere!
    Stick with 48:18

Um, I'm, already on a 48T, was wondering if there would be a major difference between going for a lower chainring or a higher cog

  • chain length

is it long enough to accommodate a larger cog?
