By some bloke called hippy. Can't you read? Actually, it probably wasn't really hippy but someone pretending to be hippy. There's lots of them around--how else to explain the post count on here?

Nah, I just didn't read the comments. But your comment was four days after Ed published it! What took you so long? :)

I had to read his frickin' report.. that's what took so long! ;)
    Long-winded bastard..

  • My kinda guy!

  • Yeah.. you two should get together.. maybe write each other stories.. ;)

We met on the 2007 DD. Lovely bloke.

  • You must've been fast or early.. I think that was the one where he smashed it there, since he was able to bail to Ipswich at 4am or something where poor bastards like me had to get back to Londumb.

  • Yes, his write-up is here:

    You've read it before. ;)

  • You are very reflective.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/omcoc/953741348/

It's my post-DD look. I've got it down to perfection.

  • That was a horrible ride though. Did you miss the rain? This year's was much better.

I can honestly say that the rain didn't bother me much. The cold did! Also, I found 2008 to be more difficult as the second half of the ride felt quite a bit colder than even 2007. Funnily enough, this impression was apparently not shared by anyone, so perhaps it was just a particular fail to HTFU on my part.

yeh that hail was pretty bad for a while, but it warmed up in the end, unlike the pro race the next day!!

    i won't be around for 2009 or 2010 either :(
.. so here's a tipoff for my favourite local b&b.

it's just outside damme, which is called 'little brugge', because it is. little, and like brugge. these guys organise the catering for the race, so they know what they're doing. the breakfeast is incredible. there's only three rooms, and much better set up for couples. you can get the train back to brugge afterwards, it's easy enough. hope someone appreciates the info!

He, he, I was talking about the 2007 DD, which I believe was what hippy was referring to. But I'm sure I'll make it to Vlaanderen one day, too.

  • i am in belgium this friday/saturday, hopefully have time to check out Roubaix and think about signing up for 2010, registration due out in november i think..

  • Someone is trying to arrange a global fixed gear assault on P2R in 2010

  • Google Trannie..

A lot of people are interested in this one day adventure. USA, UK, Hong Kong, Australia, Spain, Germany and France, some people will come to form far from the bunch on the Cobble. So it can be more interesting for you to ride most of the day before the pro race Paris Roubaix, April 10th 2010, then support your favorite racers at l'Arbre on the sunday ...
I can find you a place to sleep and say you make your trip in the North of France.
You have the choice between june 6th and 10th april! I will choice according to your preferences. I'm waiting for your feedbacks!

    • April 10th: pros:
pro-watch the race live on the sunday
      PR-exciting ride in the surrounding
-ride in the real PR conditions (rain, mud, wind, light ...)
      same route as pros -
      april-10th: Cons:
-be in shape very early in the year!
      -weather forecast (rain and wind)

    • June 6th: pros:
during ride Paris-Roubaix Cyclo allow us more security and more feed zones.
      -better weather
-more time to be in good shape
      june-6th: Cons:
-a lot of riders (with brakes and gears) on the route
      PR-less exciting surrounding
-some changes in the route (less Cobble)

      <Précédent

  • i like option one but to add to the cons: it is very unlikely to finish in the velodrom. meh

  • hippy..

    10th april definately because:-

    1. i love wet, cold weather and mud that really sticks
    2. i have a titanium road bike c/w gears, so it will survive all the unplanned crashes
    3. i will be traversing the alps from geneva to cannes in june with the fireflies
    4. 260km ride if it is available cos i love pain..
  • 260k P-R fixed? Hmm.. I didn't even contemplate that but it would reduce the likelihood of destroying a derailler in a prang and it's meant to be pretty damn flat. Right Clive? Right!?

  • June please, my 40th will be on the 7 June so it will be real mid-life crisis taking place out on the cobbles...

  • i have four riders interested in the 260km / 10 april .. planning travel / accomodation options once we are registered, we are on a very tight budget.. the cobblefest will be fun, not fixed though.. i'm 42 next year i make each year a challenge against mid-life crises..

  • @hippy..

I have discussed P-R with business contacts in Belgium this weekend, we are working towards entering a team of 10 riders .. Deltalight-Fireflies for the 260km route on the 10 april 2010.. all proceeds going to Leuka, target raise is £10,000, plus one steel frame colnago 'master' custom build team bike to auction off after the race..

please keep me posted with event details, i want to register team as early as possible.

  • 6th of June is when the Velo Club de Roubaix hold their bi-annual sportive version of the ride..

The April stuff looked to be more of a DIY option. I have no idea if the roads will be open for this.
