I have been thoroughly recommended brooks saddles by quite a few people and with a monster ride on the cards for the summer I thought now would be a good time to get one, to wear it in in advance. So, I just bite the bullet and got one at the weekend (team pro). I'm used to a specalized alias 143, which has one of cut away things so it does feel quite different - the team pro has the closest measurements to the spesh 143 as I could find. I'm as yet not sure if this is a bad different or just a different different, only time (and some miles) will tell I guess. It doesn't hurt or anything like that and it not 'uncomfortable', which is a good start I suppose.
I'm a little irritated with myself as I know I am paying more attention to what bits are touching the saddle than should be just because I'm paranoid and I'm sure I am over thinking things.
How long do people think is a good amount of time to give a saddle to decide if it's for you or not? I was thinking a few hundred miles, or do brooks take a bit longer to get used to?

ah right you are-- good luck with that and have fun trying whatever happens, how bad can it be?

Planet x super light;
I've got one on my audax/touring bike and It's comfy as anything. I might buy one for my fixed gear before long but the charge spoon has loads of life left in it yet.
still the best saddle I've used.
On most of my bikes now, except the beater which has a spoon, as above.
I find that in Tri/ TT mode it is great as the extra length really makes you feel stable.
In long distances, that same length makes you feel like you have a choice of positions. -

but had a bit of a fright the other week, and went to the doc, the "procedure" involves a bit of a exploration and a bloodtest

Have you rode a fizik saddle before? If so, try their new versus range that has a central channel to reduce pain on your danglies.
Use the spine concept to decide if you're a Arione, Antares or Aliante type. I'm liking the look of the Arione as have narrow sit bones but on long rides get numbness from a Arione CX.

That Planet-X saddle is shite. Cheap foam changes shape, badly constructed etc...
You get what you pay for

I have to say I'm loving my Brooks Team Pro classic - it's been on my hack/winter bike for a few months now and just gets better and better. But it's not light, and that's why I have a toupe on my carbon bling-a-ding-ding bike. If you're concerned about dropping 100g here or there, the Brooks will add a whopping 300g over most lightweight saddles.

Or look into the Specialized Romin saddles. Varying width and a channel the entire length of the saddle.

Ok, Ive now managed to work myself into a panic about erectile disfunction and sluggish swimmers. Been getting a bit achey in the aggot region as my mileage has gone up a bit recently.
Anyway, I think Im going to bite the bullet have a crack (heh) at one of these:
http://www.ismseat.com/products.htm
So, the Road is the same design as the Racing, but more padded. The Racing is designed for more aero positions, TT etc, which isnt what I need, so I guess that excludes both of those.
Thinking of the Breakaway, which is the Podium but more padded.
Does anyone know anything about which one of these would be most suitable for a commutenenger? I am a bit confused by the technical mumbo jumbo.
Currently riding on an Arione, which Ive liked very much until recently.
Their site is a bit rubbish all of a sudden. They've doubled the range without a proper discussion of differences between models or weights. I've just emailed them for some clarification. If in doubt I'd go for the Road version Or like I mentioned before, go for a solid saddle so that only the body parts that need to be in contact with the saddle are and the soft tissue is unaffected. If you really are worried about your johnson take the Adamo- at the least it will sell second hand.

^ I've got one of those flat carbon + ti rails saddles on the track bike. very flexy, and not in quite as considered a way as I'd like, but comfy enough. looks proper mean too - from the side there's practically nothing there.

i cant help but want one of those velo carbon saddles. million dollar question: is it comfortable?
ive had a velo saddle before that was very comfortable, but had to be set very nose up to get there.

If I wanted something like that, I'd just get a second hand Ti SLR and strip it. Same price maybe even cheaper AND guaranteed comfort.

Get an Arione, Balki.
It's what I use and we'll be celebrating Edie's first birthday on Wednesday.

Slightly unclear as to how these two facts are related?

Awesome link. I'm not getting on with the planet-x I bought (30 minutes on the trainer, numbness begins). I may try an Antares next.
Swimmers aside, its not comfy.
