Which Saddle?

  • anyone got any ladies saddles going? x

  • SMP Extra, they're cheap and worth trying out to see if the shape work.

  • Anyone got a 143mm Specialized Romin saddle they want to sell?

  • As I get lower over the bike (when pushing on for e.g.) I tend to roll forward off my ischial tuberosities and onto my central soft tissue (perineal area?), leaving me resting on the spine of the saddle with a part of myself that doesn't appreciate it that much.

I've been using a standard Arione for years now, but am thinking about trying something with either a cut out or an abbreviated nose.

Which should I try first, oh hive mind?

  • The marketing guff for the Adamo attack sounds spot on:

The front arms of the Attack feature a contoured downward slope. This can aid in allowing the rider to roll their hips forward for high power output, or for increased comfort with a high amount of saddle-to-handlebar drop.

Introduced in 2011 and all about performance! ISM’s winning design allows for increased hip rotation, thus decreasing a rider’s aerodynamic drag and opens the diaphragm for easier breathing. Riders report an increase in wattage due to the more aggressive positioning. Sloped front arms provide extra relief to the superficial perineal space. From the start gate to the finish line, you will slice through the competition.

  • Try a Romin also.

I tested (well, did one slow lap of a velodrome) someone's Adamo recently. It felt immediately awful, but the bike obviously wasn't set up for me. Might go 2nd hand and try one out for a few weeks.

  • The ISM I tried didn't work fantastically for me on a road bike. Too wide at the nose.

Any of the performance orientated SMPs would be worth a shot.

  • I am arione4lyf too. I recently discovered that Fizik actually tells you to level the rails not the saddle nose which means its at least 2 deg downward facing; won't be approved by #internetbikefit nazis but its doing wonders for me. And by arione I mean Kurve Snake.

  • I would second the SMP suggestion (for a road bike)
Much more effective than a romin

Adamo only really works when you are in a really low position and stay there (is TT position), they are pretty useless when you sit up.

  • where did you find out about the rails needing to be horizontal?

1:10 into this video a fizik employee says the arione should be horizontal, but then contradicts himself saying that most people like to have it 1-2 degrees down at the nose

  • The SMP is the "challenging" looking one, with the Concorde-when-landing nose?

  • It's the fugly one yes.

  • I have ordered one from Aliexpress for testing porpoises.

  • Another vote on SMP, but the Adamo is easier to get for less monies to try out.

  • There is an SMP thread... with a good Steve Hogg link to set it up.

  • I've been getting on really well with an Antares Vs, probably the best saddle I've tried for road, find it very supportive at the back but non intrusive with weight forward...

I also have an adamo in mint condition (the road one , forget the model name) for £80 posted...

  • Just found an ok looking cheapo SMP saddle - Storm Pro

£35 on Wheelies ebay - I've bought one to try out.

  • ..it has turned up, box and all - looks fine for the money.
Manufacturers date stamp is March 2003, 142mm wide, 267mm long, so quite a bit smaller than my current favourite the 2013 phenom 155.
Rails are marked 'Manganese' with mm lines on them.

  • Picked up a second-hand Fizik Antares 00. Just wanted to check: The carbon rails with the wrapping are not suitable for use with saddle bags, right?

  • phenom

shh, don't tell everyone what a great saddle the phenom is..

    ...oh

  • Do SMP make a genuine version of that? Seemed odd.

  • Think of it as a taller, wider, less long, more padded, uglier, hipsterer flite-substitute.
