what's the timbuk2 quality like? are they fully truck tarp lined?
thinking of getting one of their new backpacks

Timbuk2 are known to be horrible bags, if you listen to anybody else but me. Mine has been going strong for 17+ years. Nothing has ever got wet in my bag, unless the fluid emanated from within, like the beer that exploded. ;)
Good, but maybe not the best rain-proofing, and does have a habit of sliding on the back. Mine needs repositioning every few minutes.

Fully agreed. Love my Timbuk2, but agree about the rainproofing - I've never got anything wet in there but I've never been in a proper torrential downpour.
Though I found the repositioning depends on how full the bag is - if it's empty I'm constantly adjusting the thing, but if it's reasonably full it sticks to my spinal column like a prison rapist.

it's seriously crap, i thought it was fine, until I got a basic Chrome messenger bag, even thought it's durable, it's still pretty shit.

I rode home in a torrential downpour with my Pac on last night, not a single thing got wet inside, it fits very ergonomically, and carries everything I need it to, buying cheap/crap bags is a false economy, if you save up and get something decent to begin with, it'll last you years :)

i would agree with you but i bought the linnel 'courier rider bag' for 30 quid and when compared side by side with chromes it is exactly the same, and quality is excellent, carried very heavy loads all winter in it.
anyway i'm looking for a backpack now, the timbuk2 Hemlock seems great for the money (i know someone going out there who could get one at dollar price) just concerned about quality as i said.

possible i would woodrow, but would like a bit more information on it first, i emailed linnel's but got no reply.
Snoops, could you provide any more information on the bag? what kind of straps and pockets does it have?
-
• #511
Aren't they just the same as the royal mail ones but in a different colour?
-
• #512
had anyone order from www.seagullbags.com/black/
are they any good?
-
• #513
Ed, I'd still say that a Timbuk2 would be a better investment than say......a Howies?
:O

@Cohen, the red ones are the same ones the Royal Mail use. Pockets?? What would a postman do with pockets in his bag?? I hope you understand the design remit clearer now.
@CrazyJames, the black Linnels courier bag is alot bigger than the red one. I believe that it has no shape or padding, so I'd avoid it.

aha! excellent logical reasoning there

linnel do the royal mail bags, and then they do the 'courier rider bag' which is exactly the same net as a chrome messenger bag. but it is massive. yes it isn't padded, but neither is a chrome.
i just cut up a camping mat and inserted that under the floating liner to create padding. the strap is well padded and has a velcro section for a comms pouch and a seat belt clip for easy removal.
the courier rider bag is seriously good for the money. and i can recommend linnel aswell, they sent me a free sample of the bag and never asked for it back! so mine cost nothing. i tried to return it but they didn't respond to my emails.
it has served me through all weathers with full loads, even curryer work.
it is basically an xxl chrome citizen. the quality is the same, the layout is the same, just doesn't have the logo on it (which is a bonus).

Mines been excellent, really solidly constructed and dry as can be. Would recommend them.
Although I might have to upgrade as the medium isn't big enough for some jobs. You can fit a lot of stuff in there but id say its only good up to a3 in any bulk.

Haha, quality
... "it's real important to have a protective water-resistant layer or otherwise your ham sandwiches might get wet and soggy"..
... I can't get over the fact that you're a total douchebag and I wouldn't be surprised to see you riding your bike with a dildo in your bottleholder, just in case..but don't get upset, it's nothing personal..=) if you can take a dick, you can take a joke, right?

james, yeh that one. although mine doesn't have the yellow flash or the pony express logo on it. think that picture may be of an older model. the new one is stitch for stitch the same as a chrome just on a larger scale.

still wanna split an order crazy james?

Eh?
When did we talk about splitting an order, are you talking about the linnell bag?
I'm already sorted on the bag front, but it does seem very good value, £30 for what is basically a chrome copy, is the buckle at the front the same as the chrome as well, like a seatbelt interface? -

Rickshaw are doing a mirror-silver version of their courier bag. Its certainly interesting-looking,
though I wonder how long it would stay pristine. Probably not that long. Nice aesthetic though.https://www.londonfgss.com/attachments/12515d1247978268-silver-rickshaw-bag.jpg
