  • Haha, I kind of cracked up while reading Ben's posts..=)

Ben, I suggest you take the list and some pictures to a real bike messenger and ask for their approval/disapproval of the different bags here, rating them from one to ten, then eat it and soak in the knowledge!
You really serious about this, aren't you? How do you know that none of those bags are "real" messenger bags or are uncomfortable to ride with? Where's the PROOF?? You're asking for some "bags that real supapro fucken 1337-messengers" use, while having absolutely no idea how all those bags would feel. A messenger bag doesn't absolutely have to look like a Chrome Metropolis/Kremlin bag.. so, since you want confirmation from this forum about which bags are used by real messengers, I ask you to bring me confirmation that no messengers use any of the bags in your FAIL-list..

Until then, get the fuck out, nobody likes you! :) Go get yourself some "real messengery" bag that can take your 2 km rides to work with your pressios lunch in there, 'cause "it's real important to have a protective water-resistant layer or otherwise your ham sandwiches might get wet and soggy"..

    EDIT:
And you first write "I didn't mean to offend anyone" and then call the people a "forum fag "gang"".. but of course you're a good and nice guy and I totally like you, but I can't get over the fact that you're a total douchebag and I wouldn't be surprised to see you riding your bike with a dildo in your bottleholder, just in case..but don't get upset, it's nothing personal..=) if you can take a dick, you can take a joke, right?

  • Oh, he's tested them all you see.. haven't you Benny boy?

You must've ridden a lot of miles with all those bags.. maybe that's why you're an even grumpier twat than me?

Project Tortoise = no bag at all? WTF is this then..

  • Haha, dear oh dear that was amusing:

That's a funny movie! =) And megan fox..! yum..

  • right guys,

im in need of a new bag for my commute to work and general life as well... got about £100 max to spend. I dont want a HUGE bag as i generally dont carry more than a change of clothes in it.

i like the look of the chrome mini-metro.. anything else that compares to it?

  • the forum should be proud to have you!

Steady on Cohen. I'm glad the lists have been helpful to you, but the forum will only ever be lucky to have me, if there is an inter-bike-forums Tug-of-War competition. I'll be the guy at the back with the rope around my waist. We'd win, easy. ;) Lfgss FTW.

  • I've had two and I found the same, watch the stabiliser strap though, mine broke on both.

    Will do, thanks.

  • Puma have a new bag, and its called (quite originally) The Courier Classic. Its in grey, though it looks off-white.

Its bound to upset someone. No names called. ;)

To be frank, I like it....and their other offering, the Sailing Messenger Bag.

What the bleeding --- is that?

    lol

  • Thanks tee, I've added Redline Bags. Good call.

    No 'http://www.tescobagforlife.com' then no?

My question is: I need a courier bag (= comfy, waterproof, fits in an elephant or a rhinosaurus) that looks respectable and professional and not courier scruffy?

Don't take me wrong. I love courier scruffy. I am courier scruffy. But my business doesn't/isnt't... adaptations.

    Anyone?

  • ok so my large backpack has only about 7 threads holding one of the straps on and i use it daily to carry lots of stuff, including awkwardly shaped bike parts. I'm not sure if its worth getting a backpack again, but i'm not too keen on the whole messenger bag style.

so my question is... pretty predictable really

what are the advantages of a one of the above listed bags over a normal large backpack??

    thank you

  • Courier bags are traditionally a one-strap affair. It means that for courier-work, you can swing the bag around your body to take out or put in packages, without unstrapping, or taking off from your body.

Some Courier bags use twin straps (Ortlieb Messenger Pro) like backpacks, and quite a few offer stabalising straps, to stop it sliding on the rider's back. These have the twin strap design in common with backpacks. The main differences are the materials used for true Courier bags is extremely tough. Designed to be seriously abused, and still work reliably for many years.

My Timbuk2 is 17 years old, and has been in constant use; including real courier use from 1991-1994. Such bags are tough. Backpacks are not normally designed with such hard-wearing materials, and don't normally last as long.

The better Courier bags, are handmade, and can me completely personalised.

  • i am intrigued by the twin strap design, i suppose what im looking for really is a hardwearing backpack which i can easily carry large thing or if they cant fit in can be attached without using a bungie cord round my waist

thank's i will look into this ortlieb bag

  • after looking into it i have found it is essentially just a box with straps and waterproof material maybe ill just get another backpack.

what is making me lean towards a messenger type bag the most is the design with the whole flap opening very wide but still covering down to the bottom of the bag meaning if it can fit in between the clips and the top of the flap it can be carried (more or less) for example wheels and frames are a real bugger to carry with a backpack (without cable ties or bungie cords) but can quite easily be attached to a messenger bag

hmmmmm i will have to think about it some more

  • GA2G could you apdate the proper web page for the freight bags

    http://freightbaggage.org/

    thanks

  • Done now rik. Thanks for the heads-up.

And cheers to VB for allowing all my godammed list-threads on your forum. ;)

  • Puma have a new bag, and its called (quite originally) The Courier Classic. Its in grey, though it looks off-white.

There's a black version too - on eBay for £39. Anybody tried it?

  • I saw this on ebay, its NOT a courier/messenger bag, but a mere shoulder bag, that looks cute.

One for the medics amongst you. Yes, the ebay-shop is called BuyItNowhere.

  • Bugaboo are the first choice, Chrome the second. All others are just wannabe's

  • Yeah all those hand made innovative bags made by people closely tied to cycling communities around the world are bullshit, damn wannabes.

+1 especially scott not scots, their just shit. . .

    xD
(love you really scott, i want one of your bags. . :D)

  • Bugaboo are the first choice, Chrome the second. All others are just wannabe's

first fail, second fail, and them more fail.

study the list you have in the first post of this thread, and we you have done your homework come back and tell us again what is the choice

  • Bugaboo are the first choice, Chrome the second. All others are just wannabe's

Except neither of them have been around anywhere near as long as other companies....so i'd say that makes them 'wannabe's' too....wouldn't you?

Oh, and it's Bagaboo...surprised you don't know that...what with them being 'first choice' and all.
