Looking for a pair of gloves that will be as waterproof as possible - has anyone tried Gore Countdown's?
-

The fucking sun's out. Winter threads >>>>
But did anyone ever find those Sky gloves with the chain link pattern gripper?

^^ Having ridden to Whitstable and, recently, Southend in the pissingallnight rain I can safely say no cycling gloves are waterproof. Carry a spare pair, is the best advice I can offer.
Mind you, how about a pair of rubber gloves over merino/silk liners as an option?

^^Maybe in the south. Take a gander at the Tour of Britain to see my current riding conditions. Was 5°C, feels like 2°C for my commute this morning :(

One of the riders in the break in the Tour of Britain yesterday was wearing a rather fetching pair of Castelli gloves, anyone got an idea what they are? They were grey with a fastening flap on the back
-

They may not have been Castelli.
-
• #983
No, they weren't, but they were worn by an otherwise Castelli kitted out Sigma rider. I noted them too, but couldn't see what they were.
Closest thing I can find sold by Sigma is: http://www.sigmasport.co.uk/item/Campagnolo-Clothing/System-Raytech-Glove/5NR?wmp=245

Yes, I have a pair.
Very good gloves, actually waterproof unlike my previous Sealskinz, and pretty damn warm despite being *relatively *thin (i.e. not massive gorilla gloves). Despite being generally warm bodied my fingers get well cold and these, with a thin underlayer, managed me all of the last two winters.
Only issue being they don't have a soft bit for wiping nose on. Wiping a runny nose on these or a softshell sleeve is pretty unpleasant.

ah great - thanks for the info. What is the sizing like on them?
-

I ride countdowns when training. Very waterproof. But 2h + of proper rain and your hands will get wet. However they will stay warm.
Team with silk liners for sub 0 temps and you'll be fine all day, as long as you don't take the gloves off!!! That is key to any gloves working!
They seem true to size, maybe size up one so you've some extra room as room will keep your hands warm. And leaves space for silk liners.
Get them from wiggle, as wiggle do easy hassle free returns for faulty items. I've had 2 fall apart on me, but I put hours into them. So that's fair. But wiggle sorted them no issue. -

Yeah normally I tend to go a size down on gloves and break them in a little as I hate it when gloves go all baggy.
Thanks for the info - I don't really expect anything to be waterproof over 2 hours, but as long as I can stay warm I don't mind. The 8 or so 4+hr rides i did in torrential rain last winter were horrible, even with a spare pair of gloves to switch to after 2 hrs my hands would still be numb and soaked after half an hour.

Hmm, the plot thickens. Now I know I don't know what they are and will struggle to find them, I really want them.
However in the meantime I think I will be buying some Grippp full fingers for dry autumnal conditions. Fingers were suffering in the mitts a little this morning.

Are the Gripps good? Where can you buy?
I was looking at Preal Izumi cyclones or giro DNB mtb gloves for full finger. -

I think actually it could have been a Giordana rider, which would make these the most likely candidate. Could be them...bit hard to tell when the ones on screen were so slick and shiny being soaking wet.

£40 at kinoko. Dam expensive!

^ the Gore's are £53 at Wiggle?!

I own them already.
I don't own Gripps.
I'm currently un-liquid. -

Been hankering after Grippps for a while now, but dififcult to find the white backed ones to avoid the horrendous logo splashed all over them. The gloves themselves are good and should provide resistance to the wind until more serious winter gloves are required.

FF gripps aren't that warm, I definitely still get cold fingers in weather like this.
For autumn I'd prefer a pair of FF MTB gloves. I had Endura Full Monty gloves for the last couple of autumns and they've been great. Then once it gets really cold I switch to pro x-pert winter gloves (picked them up for £12 a while back) http://www.koo-bikes.com/pro-x-pert-wp-winter-gloves-black-2010.html

I like these from planet x for this sort of temperature http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/CLPXFLAGL/planet_x_softshell_flanders_gloves
Nice thin fleece lining and lasted fairly well except the velcro on mine has given up a bit. -

I'm wearing the Grippps with an inner lining of HTFU though
-

Gripps are amazing comfortable, but I wouldn't want to go through the winter with them.
Unless they released a winter version of course.

+1 for Gripps - used the mitts all Summer and the full fingers until it gets too chilly.
Then swap for some huge great 'Night Vision' over gloves plus liners.
That pretty much matches my initial thoughts which was why I went with the silk. Will do the same again. Cheers.
