Wouldn't know about riding them with hoods since I only use them at -15c. or below.. At that point I'm riding my 29er.
They're not the most comfortable so for long rides I'd probably go for something else.Merino liner gloves are great and if you can fit those inside your gloves (or then buy gloves for winter which do fit them inside), they add a layer of warmth.
Have you considered Pogies. I use mine with just a pair of thin track gloves on. Nice and toasty, and a lot more comfortable. Best winter investment I've ever made I reckon.

I destroy gloves. I don't know why - I've always done it: skiing, cycling, cricket etc
You sound like a handful.

I like my sealskinz, on a second pair after losing one of the first pair, they're comfy and you can do a lot while wearing them. They are toasty until it gets to around freezing, then they seem pretty useless, the waterproof bit seems to freeze or something.

Pogies are not an option. But anyways I really don't have a problem with neoprene and for this winter I bought leather keirin gloves which I intend to pair with liner gloves. Leather shields from the elements and liner brings insulation. Foam grips are probably on the list too..
the ultragrips were fine for until -2c. or so if I remember correctly.
Also if you're smoking you might want to quit for the winter... :D

Really like my merino defeet gloves. Nice and warm. With silk liners they'd be good to cold. And very functional.

How do you find it when you're going very fast? (genuine question).
-
• #1108
Erm. HA!
Can't say I've gone very fast much, but going down hill they seem fine. They fit well so don't move around and grip is good. -

I have these from 'Air Tunnel' gloves from Prendas and got them last winter.

Even on the coldest of cold days, I've never had cold hands.
Best deep winter gloves I've ever owned. -

Do you have to stop to reinsert your hand after every turn in a pair of those?

They are intentionally made stiff. So if you do want to remove a hand. Its no problem stuffing it back in again. Being able to actually use you hands without thumbling in chunky gloves. Despite it being -5C. Is such a bonus. Just eating an energy bar used to be a nightmare in my masssive mittens.
Last years fatfront winterbike.
Full fat this year :)

Totally seriousAlso totally wrong
The ones i looked at earlier were for rowing and seemed to have a tight fit at the wrist. Search term 'Pogies Cycling' has dealt with my confusion. Sorry! I might have to get some. My hands are already sore ass fuck even though it isn't properly cold out.

Well they are pretty big, as you can see. I rode a few Snow covered trails with them on, and it took a while to get used to when moving the bike around a lot.
Those are from Alaska, expensive, bulky, but really warm. You can get neoprene ones which also do a great job (from what I've read) with less bulk.

Cycle Surgery have a 50% discount on some full fingered gloves:

Anyone got a left hand winter glove lying around. Wore new ones the other night for the first time, only to immediately lose the left one.

In the last week or so I've moved from planet x winter gloves (with silk liners) to my new pearl izumi softshell gloves, thinking they'd be much warmer. They're windproof, have nice long cuffs and are lovely and soft inside (though I wear liners which these too) but they're only just about okay for this temperature, possibly because I think they're slightly too small for me.
Does anyone have any super warm gloves they'd like to swap for these? They're a ladies L but don't have any pictures of flowers or have any bows (they're black with reflective thumbs), which probably equates a small-ish mens M.

I have gone overboard and bought these
They are warm enough so far on the coldest days, but the heating element is there for the deep winter chill. I have tried it, and after 5 minutes any sign of chill has gone, so I turn them off, and that is using the minimum level out of three. After 10 minutes on level 3 my hands are actually hot! -
• #1119
But do they do socks?
-
• #1120
Adroit, what are they?
Dammit, I still need to try out my heated insoles and let you know what they're like!

Small gloves are definitly cold.
I have some TKmaxx gloves. 2 near identical pairs (insport or something). One pair L, and one pair XL. The L are only slightly small. But the XL are loads warmer.

I have been using Hotronic insoles
http://www.hotronic.com/products/fw/But this year I have stuck the element on the soles of sheepskin insoles
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nordvek-Thick-Sheepskin-Lambswool-Shoe-Boots-Boot-Insoles-Insole-All-Sizes-/120994370862
I know they look a bit grim, I just fished them out of my shoes for the photo. My feet simply don't get cold now. The insoles just replace the normal ones, so there is no need for larger shoes. -
• #1123
Where did you buy the Hotronic stuff from Adroit?
I can find plenty of US stockists, but no UK ones.
-
• #1124
yeah, gloves and insoles I bought in the states, in the off season from a ski shop, so a I paid a fraction of the retail too

My merino liners have died after a year of use, going to give silk a go. Will any old pair suffice? Decathlon have some for £6
