  • enjoy calshot Rob. no sprints then. i'll just try keep up with claus.

  • keep up with claus and mr smith for two or three laps, that'll warm you up

  • hmm my knee injury appears to be getting worse. I think I may just spend a week of the bike. First time I have ever had an injury and I don't like it. I htink I have done too much hill work recently in too big a gear

Swain's Lane? Sorry to hear that, Mike. Hope it recovers quickly and that you've detected it at the stage where there is no major problem yet!

  • I'm not drinking as much as I planned so I might make it out there. Vee shall see..

  • I will probably be at RP around 9ish tomorrow now, so will do a lap and wait for the 9:30 crew to arrive.

  • and before anyone types anything, a 30 min lap is quite quick for a Sat morning...

  • Yeah. Im going to give this a miss. I don't want to damage myself. Drinking a nice 15 year old Glenlivet now instead to dull the pain. Have fun

  • Moved onto Monkman's Slaughter Strong Bitter now.. bit tart for me at the mo'.

  • hope you had a good one - is a beautiful day for it.

am off to manchester to watch some proper track racing! will post up photos, partic if Hoy has managed to HTFU and get back on his bike.

  • Typical. First nice day of the year and I can't do it :(
Sure it will be nice today

  • if it's any consolation mike I'm outta action as well - went running on weds eve and haven't been able to walk properly since.

re your knee - have you had your pedalling action checked out? Do you know what's causing it? Better to get it sorted now, pre-season, rather than in a few months time.

  • Well. I have never changed anything on my bike. Same pedals, same saddle and height etc. The only difference is, I have been doing loads of hill climbing recently, far more than usual and I think that when I done some climbing in to big a gear, it triggered something.

The pain in my knee is not caused by my knee, if you know what I mean, it seems ti be terminating there. It is definitely originating from the big muscle that runs from my arse to my thigh. The Glutiod or something is it? I am getting pains travelling up and down my legs from there to my knee. I have been doing some stretches and these are probably helping. I think I just need to not go on the bike for a week and se how it works out.

This is all hapening in my left leg, which coincedently( or not ) is far bigger and stronger than my right leg!?

  • Sounds like pain referred from somewhere else, perhaps the hip (where I've had it in my right leg). But don't take medical advice from me, go have it checked out!

  • I had exactly the same symptoms about 18 months ago. I am no medical expert but I would definatly see a physio soon. If it is what I had then rest will probably not sort it completely, just give a bit of temporary relief. My physio diagnosed a tight ITB, pinching of a nerve in my hip and over developed quads causing a lack of stabilty in the knee. He was interested in the fact that it may have come from riding a lot more fixed at the time which may have over strengened certian muscle groups at the expense of others which could then lead to the problem.

Given you mention its in the stronger leg then there is some correlation so I would get it checked out as soon as you can and get someone who knows what they doing on the case. For me it took a lot of deep tissue massage and stretching and an injection of cortisone in the hip area. Hopefully you won't need so much!

  • d.mac, thanks very much for your response. It sounds very similar to what you experienced and I had already kind of self diagnosed ITB syndrome.

Although, as you say self diagnoses is not a good idea, I knew it wasn't being caused by the knee. I have an excellent osteopath who has got me through some bad times with my back and shoulders before so I will definitely go and see him next week.

  • I know I didn't ride with you filthy fixers but it was fun being out in such nice weather and having chat after it all. Bright times. Off to get that grinder now.

So you still haven't had enough of grinding after today's ride? ;)

  • nice morning. thanks to claus for making me work a bit harder.

It was good to see you speeding off at the top of the hill after Claus Mr Smith, I had only ever seen you sitting around the cafe before, I was wondering...

  • he he

  • i'm not all talk.

  • Good to get out again after a few weeks off. Good to join Claus chasing the Dynamos. Good to feel the sun on my back instead of snow in my face. Bright times indeed.

Dancing James, how did your day pan out? ;-)

  • what a great morning on the bike. was good to see so many of you out there. best moment: Mr Smith trying to smoke me off thinking some roadie sitting on his back wheel. worst moment: Corny misjudging the torque when tightening the seat post clamp. thanks to Dropout that got resolved nicely.
