I just converted a near to identical (probably a bit older) peugeot.
I'd stick some nice bullhorns on that, and get your ratio right (i'm currently thinking abou 42-15) and they're lovely frames for the job.
Im going for 52t - 20t Just cause I have the 52 on the front already.
I have a pair of old drops I was going to chop and turn for a crude pair of bullhorns. Im trying to keep the budget down (its not worked so far...)
Edy - stickers. I love stickers. Can you hand deliver to Edinburgh?

Took the ol' Pug to the bike shop today. I was going to get the BB changed to bring in the chainset to get a decent chainline with my new wheels (On-One track wheels). I knew my chainline was a long way out. A quick measurement in the shop showed it to be 15mm! As it is, it would be impossible to bring my existing 52t chainset in towards the frame enough to get a chainline as it would hit against the stay. I was using the big ring from the old double that was on the bike when I got it. The BB on it just now does seem to be quite long, but I was wondering whether a ss/fg specific chain set will bring it close enough (with the right BB)? Are they made to sit tighter to the bike frame on a square taper BB? If so, what would you recommed bearing in mind my money is running out!
I could really do without redishing and spacing my brand new wheels, although it might be neccesary.
Please bear in mind Im learning all this from scratch, as if you couldnt tell.

It shouldn't be necessary to change the wheels at all. What I would suggest doing is run the inner ring (probably somewhere around 38-44) and get a smaller cog on the back. That way your chainline will already be much closer. When I converted my pug I used the original rear wheel, with no re-dishing, and used the inner ring. It lined up fine and I haven't had any problems with it yet.
On another note...
... Has anybody had to put a new rear outer brake cable through the frame? I'm not sure what the best way of doing it is and I don't want to spend hours trying stupid things.

hey Lurker
I did put a new cable through the frame.
easier than what it looks like.
i put the wire from the front then with a torch I waited for the head of the wire to come up.
What i did, i used a disposable wire hanger (the one they give you at dry cleaning) to stick into the top of it and gently slide it out of the hole.
it was really simple!!hope this help

Just finishing up my first fixie, an 80s Peugeot triatholon, and wondering what people think the best tyre for rear wheels are?
Got about 20 nuggets to splash.
Good puncture protection a priority!
Any advice? :)
I was thinking a halo courier... -

Forget the tyre, lets see the bike!

sonic ears, just go check the bike section for the tyres list (if you can't find it, just look for a topic called the list).

I'm sorry to hijack this thread and probably repeat another:
Will most old road bike frames convert to fixed/ SS? - I've been told that forward facing dropouts won't work, but have seen pictures of them fixed. Will a chaintug fit on any frame? Would it be easier just to get a frame with rear facing dropouts?
Thanks
S

Cheers Ed.
Unfortunately I was being super impatient and bought a halo before checking for any responses.
That bad boy of a list would've been pretty damn useful!
Oh well, next time.... I'll see how it goes with the courier for now.
Pictures sooon!! :) -

Of course, not a problem. You may just need to space out the axle to fit into the road spaced dropouts on the bike and find the right size BB to get to achieve a good chainline.

you can search for it here in the LFGSS;

apparenty Halo are known for being ok on dry but awful on wet.
also after you've been riding with them, do try and write down your thought on it;

...your other option is to leave the cranks BB and just dish the wheel.

Was that aimed at my BMX front brake set up by any chance?!
Yeah, it's pretty easy to do. It takes a bit of time and tweaking, but not that hard really. The main things to watch for are clearance with your caliper on the frame. I have really old brakes, so they sit a lot lower than some of the newer ones. Also, I was able to swap the nuts around that hold the cable to the caliper. This meant that I could run the cable in from the bottom instead of the top. It needs to be set up this way not only for frame clearance, but also because the cable will pull much better than if it's routed from the top.
If there's anything else you need/want to know about it then just type it up.

Lurker your pug is wicked! That bike belongs in the porn thread. If it were porn thought... it'd involve grannies or something.

Full mudguards FTW! I put both mudguards from an old tourer on my Pug. Some of these babies...!
I should update with a pic of MY bike really! They do look a bit crappy, but I like being able to ride without looking like I've wet myself after being in a drinking contest!Edit Has anyone tried any mudguards like these...?
Do they do a good enough job? I'd like some nicer looking mudguards that can be taken off quickly and easily for when I don't need them. -
• #120
They're the short clip-on version?
I saw a guy with them on Saturday and can't say I'd noticed them before. They wont stop your bike getting covered in shit, but probably ok to save your back and feet from a drenching.
SKS chromoplastics are good.
...your bike's in the porn thread BTW.

Oooooo! Who did that then?! I'm glad you like my bike. I've never really though much of my own bikes. I always like other's much more.
Thanks guys *wells up, but restrains from full gush *!

A Pug conversion and a Bob Jackson, which I'm building a new wheelset for. These shots are about a year old now and much has changed.

This is probably more aimed at Ed than anyone else as he seems to know quite a lot about Peugeot's, but others are more than welcome to prove me wrong!
I'm thinking of stripping my frame to raw and then laquering it - does anyone know if you can get the old stickers/decals so that I can reapply then onto the raw and laquer over the top?
The decals on Eds are pretty much what I'm after, or similar:
HI stallion,
i went to new york but i only spent a few minutes at trackstar because chari and co was closed.
I end up craving for a pair of outlier trousers (which i was planning to use on my motorbike too ) which were 200$ (!!) and buying a vittoria white tyre for 30$
I also got some stickers for free (if anyone want one I have 3-4 spare).
I didn't go to "Hipsterland" - read williamsborough - the north part of brooklyn where there are more ss/fg than cars ;-)
By the way I went to see the pit where they play bike polo near trackstar and at 9am on a sunday they were swiping with massive brushes the whole place in order to play (!!) I was really impressed.
In Manhattan i didn't see many ss/fg bike , just a few , maybe 3 locked to a pole but that's it, and i can tell you i was looking every bike rear wheel...
:-)
