That wasn't me, that was my allen key storage woman who comes in on Thursdays to do my allen keys, I sacked her and told immigration about her lack of a work permit.
Did the order of the allen key not colour match the fancy dots on your mug..
i have this vision your work space carries on in this theme, after prolonged sessions working do you find yourself getting really bad headaces?

I only ever knew of one use for those kind of scales before I got into cycling.
Still the only one that matters!

tynan, which open pro's are they? they look like the CD version which may be heavier with the extra hard coating??
Yeah, possibly, there is no 'CD" indication on the rim, but they might be the CD version. I got a matching 650c and 700c pair.
I have not weighed enough Open Pros to say for certain (maybe 3 or 4) but all the DT Swiss 1.1s I have weighed have always been lighter - but batches tend to vary quite a bit weight wise, especially from year to year.

The allen keys were ok, it was the dots I wasn't happy with, apparently she didn't have a kiln/ceramic transfer system to hand - excuses like this enrage me.

I like colour more than people.

Spokes, spokes, spokes.
I think most people here would agree that war was won years ago by DT Swiss, their DT competition might be a good starting point on the scale - from here you can go heavier (stronger) or lighter (weaker) depending on your needs.

i have been following this tread because i intend to have some wheels build and i have been looking to this hubs too. the only thing I don't get is if low flange has to be 36?

ahhhh, i know where you got them from ;)dt competition spokes are light but very expensive. saying that why worry about weight if you're buying phils :o

32 hole is available. and i dont think youre heavy enough to warrant 36. im thinking of going 32 as well.

if i was you i would go silver. that's what i will do. i would have put goldtecs but they are black that's why i will buy phils, even though they are too shiny. i wish the campagnolo record were sealed! saying this i bought a sugino75 BB asphil was really expensive.
is it for the surly -

Yep ! the last resting place of the Dave Yates.

Good point, Phils are very very heavy, the only thing mitigating this is that it is not rotational mass.

Estimation restored, you're now back to the level of a 2 bed semi in Hertfordshire.

Have a look at Corny's red Mid flange phils. Nice.
DTs are expensive!
Phil BB probably an excellent idea. Also have a think about Royce stuff. The Hubs and BBs are AWESOME, if you're gonna be splashing the cash.
I'll be your first customer ;)

No, HF can be found with 36h. My front at the moment is a 28h HF.
LF are available in anything from stupidly low to 40h (though finding an SF 40h might be tricky these days) -

in terms of ride and strength what are the main differences or characteristics of the mavics and the DT Swiss?

I can't imagine you could perceive any difference, in theory the heavier wheel should be stronger, but even this can be negated by quality of manufacture (ie: a very well made rim could be lighter and stronger).
Both DT Swiss and Mavic are quality parts makers - I expect the rims are very very similar.
