I'm thinking about rolling with a Deep V on the back and a Velocity Fusion on the front for my new wheel build next year. Ed, you have a Fusion right? Are they any good?
-
• #153
The Velocity Fusion is lighter, cheaper and just as strong as the Deep V, if you wanted a Deep V in black, you might as well get the Fusion since the only difference is that it´s slighty less deeper than a Deep V.

the h+son rims look good, but are they as strong as deep v's?
can you not read?!
-
• #155
I have read that there have been 2 instances of the H+Son rims fucking up. I ride deep v's and considering the change to a deeper section rim on the back. So was wondering how actually strong they are?!
strong enough for everyday ride, not strong enough for trick (for trick, use the deep v).

I'm letting you off lightly, next time read the whole topic before asking a question that may have been already asked.

Shake in awe of Ed's generosity! Fear Ed's wrath!

i built up one of the newer ones on fri, definitely thicker side wall and a bit heavier, have the off-set drillings as well. the coating they use is ridiculously thin though and scratches easily.

if anyone is lacing one of these to a goldtec front i have black spokes availible.

• #161
just got mine laced to a nice blingbling phil and am loving it!

Got a machined front this morning. :(
-
• #163
were you hoping to get a non-machined one?
-
• #164
Nah, like I said yesterday I have to get a machined white because there are occasions I will use my brake and I don't want to ride suicide, so it doesn't look so good. At least I don't get comments from scag heads anymore when I had an arrospok on the front.

• #165
either way it'd still look great, why not get the silver one thought? didn't match with the colour co-ordination that you wanted?
-
• #166
No I want white front, white back; I'm not a fan of mismatching rims.
My rear is one of the old style H+Son's and the front is a new style so it'll be interesting to see the quality differences.

Whizz - did you go for machined front and un-machined rear, or both machined? Was discussing this at Souths last night - whether for symmetry to go for the same front and back...Can you post pics sometime.
-
• #168
Machined front, formation rear - it's purely for function and to reduce the hip hopness. When I'm home at the weekend I'll slip a tyre and tube on the front and take a photo.

welll i ride hplus sons in the velo...
and i also ride on velocity deep vs..... one thing i notice about hsons over deep vs is that they are very aero... the wheels are very deep and feel very very stiff and solid in sprints.... around turns they hold nicely in the turns and i really dont feel any flex...the side walls are alot cleaner than the deep vs...they are currently laced to dura ace hubs....
