  • I live in Gerrards Cross and I have the only fixie in the village.

  • Some kids (think they were college students) riding fixed went past me the other day and one of them shouted 'yeah bwoi!' whatever that means.

  • Shame on you dude.

Do a skid was so 2008.

  • so who's currently in uxbridge riding fixed?

  • i am. just started at Brunel. i have another mate on a fixie here too. havent ridden into central yet thoguh.

  • If you want to come to polo on Saturday I'll be riding Uxbridge>Hurlingham Park, leaving campus around 11ish.

  • I'm also riding fixed. I'm not playing polo at the moment, but Moog and I will be going to West Drinks next week, come along! It's a bit mad, but you will get used to it! We usually meet in the quad around 7:30-8:00 (depends how late my stupid tutorials are running). PM me your number and I will let you know times... lights essential. Dress for a 40 minute ride there and simmilar back...

  • Don't think I'll be going next week either, going to MCR that weekend and I've still got loads of work to do for Monday.

  • I'll either be heading out from Uxbridge or leading a Compass ride from Trafalgar.

  • i saw two guys riding today past the civic centre. one was with all white bike and blue rims...

    anyone here/?

  • I saw that bike outside of Tower A too

  • are you based in uxbridge?

  • I'm about to apply for a permanent job in Uxbridge. Is my life about to end?

    No, just your career.

  • Glad to see this thread is still going, When I started it I thought Moog, Mick and I were pretty much it in Uxbridge. Where the hell is emolux? She's so elusive.

  • No, just your career.

Actually, not. It would be a very good job. Is it commutable from central London on a bike?

  • The ride is doable but I really wouldn't want to do it everyday. It takes me about an hour to get to Hammersmith from here. The road isn't too bad traffic wise it's just super long.

  • Thanks. That's a bummer.

  • Southall is horrible, aside from that the commute is fine though.

Just kidding; our Uxbridge branch is where we send people too useless for head office but not quite bad enough to be sacked.

  • yep the white bike with the blue rims is me and the other one is my firend. what courses are all you brunelians doing?

  • It's not that bad but it depends on what times you will be riding it and how you feel over distances.
Your body will adapt anyway so long as you are prepared to ride it. If you can ride it outside peak and/or when the light phasing is in your favour it's ok. Where is the "central" you refer to?

    Southall =

Ha. This would be a step up for me - permanent academic jobs in my field are like hen's teeth.

I'm in NW1 presently. Would preferably like to stay there. I love long rides but I don't know how I'd feel about 40 miles every single day, all weather... that said, it might be fucking great. Plus, my hours would be well flexible.

  • Is it that far?
Baker St (NW1) was 13k from Ealing and Uxbridge is only 15k from Ealing.
So, around 30k each way. Ah, ok, yes it is that far.

In Oz that wouldn't be too bad but the sheer number of traffic lights and twats to keep an eye on will mean it takes a bit longer. Still quite doable. Well I have a sit down job to recover, dunno about you. If you're standing up all day it might be more difficult but I'd at least give it a go. I'm doing 20k each way right across busiest Londumb and don't think twice about it.

Looked like it from Primrose Hill, yeah. I did 15 miles each way, so 30 a day, for a while, and loved it; but that was in the country and, like you say, was nicer as you could get some speed up.

Yep, a sit down job, decide my own hours, an office for the bike and I wouldn't even need to go in every single day. To be honest I'm getting way more excited about the prospect of the commute than the job. I like the idea that it might be that bit too tough at first.

Fuck it, doubt I'll even get it. Fingers crossed tho'.
