Assistant Retoucher - Full Time
Shoreditch , London.
£17k + Health and Pension benefits
Touch Digital is expanding and looking for a new additional assistant retoucher to join us. This role would suit a photography, fine art or digital imaging graduate looking to start a long and successful career in photographic retouching. We would expect applicants to have a good sound technical knowledge of the latest Photoshop and Apple systems, with a creative eye and attention to detail. Training will be provided on a wide variety of scanning, cmyk proofing, fine art printing and high end Photoshop techniques, but the candidate should be able to work under their own initiative at times. We are not looking for photographers hoping to learn to retouch, this is a role for someone committed to a career in front of Photoshop. Touch was founded in 1999 and is one of London`s most respected retouching houses. We are based in Shoreditch. Please email your CV with a covering letter and some examples of your work / portfolio to jobs@touchdigital.co.uk. Closing date for applicants is 13th Jan 2012. Due to the high number of applicants for this role, we will only be able to contact people that are required for interviews in mid January. No phone calls please.

17 grand for a graduate?!
Is that really the state of affairs? Maybe I'll just stay at school for a few more years.

I started on £10.5K in Apr 97. That's 62% more cash now, against RPI of 52% and CPI of 35%. Doesn't seem too bad.

My first pay was a box of doughnuts and a travel card. Serious fact.
This was the only way to get into the broadcasting business. -

The sad fact is that some years ago the main reason to go to an art or film school was to get to know people, so you can call your mate ten years later and get a temporary job without any responsibilities like an art director or a producer.
I blame the raise of the HR departments for the current state of affairs. Why go to school with other more talented people or why have family members working in your industry if you can't use it?! Fuck it! At least lawyers and doctors still have it right. Nepotism for the win.

Stay at school.
Why? You'll end up poorer and graduate jobs will potentially be worse paid

le sigh.

Don't worry. You will get there in the end. Look at Bach, Van Gogh, Kafka and Emily Dickinson.
