Well you have a choice, either keep your gear and be unable to skid, or lower it, learn how to spin to get the same momentum, and then have the best of both worlds.
I'd recommend 48/18, or even 19. You'll prefer it in the long run.
48/18 yeah - 72" - I just went to this and really like this gear.
Anyway - I can't skid, don't really have a desire to, and have no problem with this. Am I wrong?

Magpie... Back in school we used to make some eyes in art class that you would stick to the back of your stack-hat. Apparently the Maggies would not swoop you when you were riding if they could see your (pretendy) eyes.

the only difference between skidding a track bike and a road conversion is you think you look cooler on the track bike.
but to the general public it doesn't matter what bike you skid on as you just look like a prick who doesn't know how to ride a bike properly.fixed gear bikes are for wankers.
Change your fucking avatar. I read this and chuckled, thought to myself "who's this funny new kid on the block" and it's fucking Smiffy! Damn it.

AAAAAHHHH!
that's fucking brilliant.
in retrospect to the difference, I realise that in the end, it's actually the sizing that make the difference, the Pug was too small for me at 54cm thus a little harder to skid, doh! observation fail.

people were slightly surprised when they actually met me for real that i wasn't a fat rocker with a mullet so i thought i would use a real pic of me. (it is 30 years old though)

a) The falcon man was back at Marble Arch today.
b) Best not to practise skidding on 48/18 - only 3 skid patches. Get yourself a 19 cog.

Bring the bird-watching. This thread sucked balls before its rebirth, so much dogmatic scutter.
I saw a chaffinch in my garden yesterday, nothing special to the serious birder but made me smile. I love this country's native birds.

always been a fine of magpies.
quite like watching starlings flocking.

My favourite bird is the bearded tit. I've met a few off this forum.

My favourite native birds are woodpigeons. They have been ever since I read in my bird spotter's guidebook: 'Flight--fast and direct, but noisy and clumsy, often colliding with vegetation.' I also love the way they look (the subtle colours and the white bits), and their wonderful waddling walk. I also like their sound, which I know some people can't stand.

Yup, love the corvids. Jackdaws are beautiful, intelligent birds.
-
• #117
Further afield, I love parrots the most, especially the large varieties like African greys.
-
• #118
Isnt a grey parrot slightly defeating the purpose? I would have thought you'd get a parrot for the colour, unless you were a pirate.
I like Toucans... and Froot Loops

You wouldn't be asking that question if you'd ever met an African grey. (Have you?) Totally fascinating. The lack of colour really doesn't matter--they are so beautiful.
-
• #120
No, I never met one... just hit up google images and they are well nice. Do the talk?
Still, dodo FTW.

Do they talk?
Yes. Apparently, they are considered the most intelligent birds. But if parrots talk, this is often a sign of loneliness--e.g., pet parrots kept in isolation. I wouldn't keep one as a pet.

Sorry OS, but i think Damo just won the pissing contest. Shrikes impale lizards on thorns according to that wiki article.

Er? I personally have no idea if African greys are 'the most intelligent' (and I don't actually subscribe to the understanding of 'intelligence' that's behind that assertion). So no pissing contest. There are many extremely impressive behaviours by different birds, e.g. in nest-building, language, etc., and I don't really think that you can squeeze them all into just one scale.
