I found that one shoe rubs on the crank because I didn't make sure it was centred in the shoe. A bit heavy but that could be because I used such old mtb soles

I was having trouble unclipping my left foot after pulling up on the pedal to do a skid. Turns out the stiff cycling shoe sole had come nearly completely unglue'd from the outer shoe sole. I ran out of the Impact glue I used before so a coat of no-more-nails and a night's curing and all is good again. I'm thinking of riveting the soles together to make sure it doesn't happen again.

wil a pair of vans be strong enough ? or do you need a pair of shoes with a cupsole like dunks etc ?
-
• #56
I've used Globes. I suppose anything will be strong enough because you're gluing it to the stiff sole of the bike shoe

I've been meaning to have a crack at this since you first posted up this thread back in 08, Mack. One quick question though, do you not find your shoes rubbing against the crank? I'm a bit worried 'cause the q-factor on my bikes is quite low, i thought this may be a problem on narrow track frames, especially with Hi-Tops or chunky skate shoes. Cheers!
No, the inner is never a exact fit so you can just set the glue with the inner pushed as far out as it will go. Plus you have some adjustability with the cleat.

Any more success / fail stories with this before I attempt?

They're not custom...
A lot of people in polo use them. Very sturdy.

I modified some terminators, they worked out fine. I have even got as far as casting moulds of my old SPD plastic soles to produce more.

Did a quick search didnt come up with anything so posting in this slightly related thread. I have a pair of specialised body geometry road shoes. Currently using time atac aliums but walking even a few meters with exposed cleats is worse than I thought! Wanting to know if these shimano cleat pontoons will work with my shoes/pedals. They are the only cleat pontoon I could find anywhere on the net...Just wanting to make the shoes a bit more friendly to walk in. Link to the cleat pontoons below.

Yes I removed the laces ..

I've got a fucked pair of SPD-SL shoes if anyone wants them for the soles? Gratis, obviously.
Might not be the best for converting shoes, considering the cleat width, but if someone wants to give it a try, or custom drill the soles then PM me. Size 8, I think.
