i'd noticed this thread title bobbing about the last week or so but didn't bother opening it as the subject has been discussed elsewhere and i thought the title was a bit laboured and unfunny. then, just now i had a moment of panic when i noticed that I'D STARTED IT! fuck! exactly how drunk was i on friday night?! *le click. Oh, it's from 2008. *relief.

I think your confusing your North African revolutionary uprisings, try Libya/Col Gaddafi.
Whoops, sorry I meant Libya.

Fuck, Gaddafi is going for it - flying in mercenaries to basically kill his own people, ordering air strikes against protesters, pretty full-on attempt to instigate a civil war in a desperate last throw of the dice, even if he manages to hold on to power, basically by committing genocide on his own people - who the fuck is going to deal with him after that, the arab countries have already washed their hands of him, he is toast with the EU and the US are done with him too.
Libya has, without a doubt, now fallen to revolution, whether it concludes in days or months, you can tick Libya off the list now as far as I can see.

China? Someone will still want to buy all that oil.

It makes you wonder where they'll find him--in a hole in the ground like Saddam Hussein?

Libya's oil exists with or without Gaddafi.

@ Alan Skull: You were asking who might deal with him still if he hangs on - which I agree is pretty unlikely now.

The countries this is effecting are one thing but can anyone seriously see the same sort of uprising happening in Saudi?
-
• #98
nope.
-
• #99
Can't see it happening, the US would be there to assist the House of Saud in no time. They've let in Mubarak and Zine el Abidine Ben Ali, and I wouldn't be surprised that Gaddafi is on his way there as well.

King Abdullah and Gaddafi are not friends.
Just heard that there have been uprisings in some Iraqi towns too, demanding an end to corruption, more jobs and better services. Police opened fire on demonstrators. not sure if it's made it into the mainstream media yet (there'll be political reasons why it hasn't, i suppose) but it was forwarded to me by email...
