Fuck me this stuff is expensive. I'm sure you can find cheaper, but a quick search of ebay shows fixed sprockets being c.$100USD.
How much more would it cost someone to custom machine one for you?
Mine came at a bargin price with the handmade frame I won as an only bidder on EBay.
The gearing is perfect. I can just (and I mean just) get up the steeper mountain trails. Spinny on the road, but thats SS for ya.
I considered going centre track before I saw the prices.

I've seen a Sugino lock ring that uses the same tool as external BB cups (16 drive grooves), and you can get a socket to drive that.
Cheers, just got my hands on one of these. Last piece of the puzzle. :)

Can it be ridden fixed, though?

By changing the hubs to the Halo Fixed-G, yes.

Frame split, off at painters at the moment. Can't wait to put this together and have a go on it.

• #636
Where did you get the frame split from?

Paragon Machine Works sell them.

Cheer.

That is a Paragon Machine Works one, Matt from Saffron did it for me. Looks very tidy. He said it is a new part, the ones I saw on their website are slightly thicker and would have had a step. This one sits nice and flush.

Carbon track frame with removable dropouts:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CARBON-FIBER-ROAD-PISTA-SINGLE-SPEED-FIXIE-TRACK-BIKE-FRAME-AND-FORK-SWITCH-M/271293855511?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D18220%26meid%3D2005799714079478061%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D8339%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D161118094612%26
Dropouts make me feel a bit nervous though. Are 2+1 bolts enough?

If four bolts are enough to hold the engines on an A-10, three are probably enough for track ends :-)
It's not how many, it's how big. For some reason, I have it in mind that B-52 wings are held on with 4 bolts, but I can't find a citation, so the A-10 reference will have to do.

I know what you mean, there's just something slightly precarious looking about them.

The anchorages in the tube end caps look more precarious than the bolts themselves.

Awesome, look like there's enough clearance on the chainstay too.

Yup, I've already dry-fitted it all and it fits fine.
Gates are good at publishing all the various dimensions and tolerances of things so it was easy enough to work it all out.
Only thing left is belt tension. Will be using a guitar tuner for that.

A few final details left, but mostly there: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cgy3ud63lhhplfn/IMAG0423.jpg

All finished:
Ride is super-smooth. The chain was the last thing that rattled on the bike. Swapped for wider rims and 25c -> 28c at the same time, very plush.

Friend managed to strip the Fixed G hubs (??), will post when I get more info.

Been very happy with belt-drive so far. Took a week to bed in a little bit and wear away the blue coating to match the profile of the cogs. Other than that it has been totally smooth and quiet every single time. Haven't had to touch a thing.
They have this for £450 a couple months ago, hopefully it'll back down in price again soon when they're on sales again.
