Rechargeable AAs will end all of the problems above.
Any other issues I can help you with? :P -

The Hope Vision one you can, as for the Exposure Spark (and the mounting is exactly as you describe it), I don't think it come with a quick release mount.
see the lever on the bottom? lift, remove and bingo;

So I did my first night ride at the weekend, the Dorset Dash. Bought a Hope V1 for it with a view to use it for commuting in the winter (non-lit roads).
It is great for lighting the road in the pitch dark. I found I only really needed the second brightest setting for really dark points, but when the moon was out or I was riding alongside someone else then the dimmest setting was enough (I occasionally switched to flashing when there was plenty of lights around me).
I was a little concerned about battery life, but had no issues with batteries dying suddenly, they were only Tesco's own brand so nothing special.
It's a bit of overkill on roads with street lights so I wouldn't bother spending the cash if you don't intend to head out into the dark, but if you are, then it's definately worth it! -

Mumble's recommendation of the fenix is a good one, can't remember the full name for it though (it not a bicycle light in the strictest sense).

That's one thing bother me about the V1, there's no incidation on whether the battery might die, it just turn off without any kind of warning, best thing to do is to have rechargable battery and carry some spare (or pop down to the local newsagent for some AA's).
If it have those little LED that change colour when the battery is about to run out like the Exposure, then it would be perfect.

it's a damn sight better looking than the hope which looks like some sort of sex aid.

You been rummaging around in the missus' underwear draw again?

it work well as one too.

^This is true, however you can always run it on full power, when that runs out just switch on again at half power which usually gets me another 30mins run time. You could even go to flash mode and i would guess you'd get an hour or more. I guess that's my way of a 'warning' and gets me home safely without needing to carry spares :)

I'd be up for a bulk buy on the Fenix Ld20.
Got 2 lockblock torch mounts for £10 off ebay. -

Where's the discount? there's always the 100% thieves discount.
What I want is something like a knog gekko with a proper clamp like the hope.
Why, it's shit.
-
• #768
I like the Gekko, it's a nice little light that I can put on whatever bike I'll be taking, only annoyance is just the button being easy to press on accident.

Im planning on doing the DD this year(as long as its dry) and trying to sort out lights. Im drawn between the Cateye EL520 or paying the extra £20 for a Fenis ld20 or Ld22 and a lock block? What are peoples thoughts?
-
• #770
Fenix defintely, let just says that the cateye is pretty mundane in comparison (especially with mumble's photographic evidence).
-
• #771
cool thanks, I was getting a little confused between quoted wattage, candle power amd lumens. Fenix it is then.
-
• #772
its a massive pain in the arse trying to get those rubber bits in the v1 clamp.
-
• #773
Yes it is. Thanks for the reminder though, I need to swap mine before Brighton this weekend.

the "evidence" was comparing the hope to the fenix

I purchased the Ld20 and its was awesome. One set off bateries last the whole DD (using it economically) easy to flick between the settings and the lock block was also good. Never had to use it on turbo on only a coupel times actually needed the to use the second highest setting which lit every thing up.
keep a spare charger at work
