Saw someone with an interesting light on my way home that I want, so hoping someone can identify it.
Rear light, fairly long and thin about 8cm long, maybe 1.5-2cm wide, solid light in the middle with a thin ring of LEDs around it that were flashing.
Any ideas?

Moon nebula ?

Nah that just seems to be the ring around the outside. This looked similar, but had a very thin ring around the outside and a large central light.

So i had an exposure race mk10 and the battery indicator blacklight stopped working within the warranty period. Sent it in and get an email stating "unfortunately this is not a warranty issue" ... no explanation or anything ...
pretty shit if you ask me, given that a) it's a very pricey unit b) i haven't abused it in any kind of way beyond road riding and c) have to deal with P&P from Oz already.
Poor form exposure people, poor form.
I even had to buy a light to tide me over, and went with this number http://indigo.lighting/shop/lights/indigo5
Proper nice, if a tad bit bulky. It even powers my exposure rear lights, as it has the same jack. Light has a different, less harsh color temperature.

Strange, they've always gone above and beyond for my stuff.
Tweet them about it?
-
• #4758
Well they ask for £36 for repair cost ... not the end of the world, but its about the principle and i am just questioning what a warranty is worth with them now.

bought a moon shield to replace a broken one after 6 years of use, aparently they've changed the design of pretty much everything including the mount, literally every single thing about it is slightly worse than it was before.
y u change things stupid people.

Ok, so I got a reply "Serial number was from early 2016, so probably out of warranty"... For some reason they had ignored the proof of purchase, which shows it's inside warranty time.
Now that I pointed that out they will fix it as warranty repair. What annoys me about interactions like this is that companies seem to always me one-worded, offering an explanation only when prompted. Someone with a less stand-offish character would probably just have let that slide and went "oh, ok" and coughed up some extra $$$

But of a random one... just got an excellent deal on 2nd hand Exposure Revo/Redeye in classifieds, I don’t actually have the Dynamo to go with but it’s coming when I can afford. Also anticipating I’ll need cables - seems daft to buy ready made ones when a roll of twin core 0.5mm cable costs a fiver and 2-pole DC plugs cost buttons.
What I need to try and find out is the spec of the right angle DC connector on the back of the Revo (presumably the same one across all exposure lights) - anyone got one they can measure fairly accurately? Length and width? Or happen to know spec?

Anybody know if this is a standard light bracket, and what it would be called?
-
• #4763
It's a supernova light, looks like a supernova bracket but it's different to mine. Looks less adjustable.
-
• #4764
I've got the one with two angle-adjustment bolts. This only has one.
-
• #4765
Cheers. That was quick.
I'm guessing its all a proprietary system, which doesn't with anything else? I just really liked the idea of mounting a light on my fork, since I've a redundant hole for the brake calliper there with discs.

That was quick.
That's what they all say.

I've only ever used Supernova so I couldn't tell you. Probably yes though.
What light do you have? You can probably get a mount to suit it.
-
• #4768
At the moment I've got a knackered old Lezyne which needs replacing. I was just looking at the battery version, Supernova Airstream 2. I'm due an upgrade!

I'm after a front light (as an alternative to my dynamo setup should it shit itself) as I've got quite a bit of night riding coming up. Really don't want to spent more than £100.00. What do I want? An exposure joystick best for that type of money or anyone got a lightly used exposure light of some sort that they want to do me a deal on?

• #4770
Some absurdly bright Moon lights available for that budget.
-
• #4771
They look good. Seems to be a lot of them. Any particular one I should look at? Where do they fit in the spectrum of things? Are exposure better?
-
• #4772
Exposure are certainly 'nicer' - well built, with plenty of interesting features, like additional external battery packs, piggy back lights, accelerometer-controlled brightness in some cases, and the Strada has a great road beam. But they're a lot of money to spend on a backup light, and the Moon lights are well put together.
Meteor Pro would be my first choice. £75 from Tredz. Almost double the output of the Joystick, and a pretty hefty battery. Few people on the local mtb shop rides have them, they're impressive for the money.

Or look to get an Exposure second hand is another other choice. I paid a little over a hundred for an older Maxx-D with a massive external accessory battery pack. I use it MTBing, but it will make a nice secondary light touring, and a good camp light as well as I have a cool little diffuser for it.
And USE/Exposure will do repair work for reasonable costs out of warranty, which is nice.
I also have a smaller Vortex Pro as a helmet light - no complaints

Thanks very much for the comprehensive reply! So many options. Going to have to put some more thought into this. Sounds like a job for work on Monday :)

Raveman also worth a look if you’re on a budget, I’ve got their brightest one with the dual beam thing. Seems pretty well built and it is ruddy bright for the £80 I paid, but I’ve not used it extensively so can’t comment on long term reliability.
Thanks. Could you run a dynamo to the battery pack if you so wished?
