Yeah I've used both, in all conditions and unfortunately the comet didn't withstand much water resistance and eventually died, also I found I was charging the comet every couple of days (granted my commute is about a hour each way) and the moon mask easily last two weeks without a proper charge.

That's well helpful, thanks, I knew you'd used the comet but didn't realised it had died. Sounds like the shield's the way to go, unless someone can reccomend something else worth looking at around that price?

Not sure whether this is a repost but its a useful tool....
Scroll down and there is a comparison diagram for a lot of leading lights.

no need, it's already one of the most popular lights* on here*
I came here to talk about mine actually...I had to do some maintenance.
Bought a replacement one of these for my Moon Mask:
and now I need a screw for the Moon Shield's cover:
Any ideas?

I'm doing the Dulwich Dynamo in a couple of weeks. Does anyone have any lights advice for it? I'm seeing items like thishttp://rover.ebay.com/roverimp/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?pub=5574889051&toolid=10001&campid=5336525415&mpt=562633http://rover.ebay.com/roverimp/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?pub=5574889051&toolid=10001&campid=5336525415&mpt=562633http://rover.ebay.com/roverimp/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=2&pub=5574889051&toolid=10001&campid=5336525415&item=121345977805&mpt=2426943 on ebay, but I just assuming they're a POS.
The batteries are not waterproof but can be made so with a bit of waterproof sealant.
Buy one , for the price you will not be disappointed. I have a couple and they are something like 3 years old and still going strong.

Would the batteries last 3-6 hours though? I used to use mine in winter and I had to charge it every 3 days and that was just over a 1hr riding a day and on flash mode, rather than full beam...
-
• #3438
Did you have the 2 cell or four cell battery pack?.
The unit as per the OP has a four cell pack.
As per the review on full beam which is generally too bright for on road riding the batteries last about 3 hours, on low beam, which is still very bright 6 hours+. -
• #3439
Yep I had the 4 pack. I am sure it only really lasted no more than 3-4 days of commute on flash before the red light shows and it doesnt last much longer once the red light shows.
I may have a bad pack of course. Or just buy an extra battery pack. Useful anyway.

Thanks all. Went with one of these in the end. For £15.50 shipped...we'll see what happens. I do have a couple of other less powerful lamps that will hopefully serve as a back up. Failing that, I'll just eat lots of carrots and nail the ride before the battery pack runs out (wishful thinking)

I see that the item you have chosen has a two cell battery pack. (The wording is fairly ambiguous in the listing so I may be incorrect) This will obviously half the run time compared to the more usual 4 cell battery pack such as comes with this

It's pretty tricky to tell: the listing a the bottom gives another totally different battery spec...either a 6400mah or a 8800mah (if I'm lucky). Will report back what I get. There's still time for panic buying before the Dynamo!
-
• #3443
It wouldn't be the DD without a little bit of last minute panic. Trust me I know this very well.
-
• #3444
Ha. I'm fully expecting to be riding down to he nearest Evans and going "give me all the lights you've got" a couple of hours before setting off.

Noticed that this morning.
Is the Sirrus decent on unlit country roads (take me home)?

Hi...I have had to sets of Knog Frog lights and every time the front light packs up. Not the battery but it seems more like a bad connection as if I take the batteries out and put them in again the light works for until they are put back on the bike. Has anyone else found this and any recommendations for a good set of lights which are similar in design to the Knogs.

^ hi, i've had those lights in 2010 and have had same problems and moreover the batteries lasted for only a couple of days, I am glad got rid of them back then. now I use lights bought from £1 pound shop in wood green. I used duck tape to make them water proof and they have been good friends ever since. batteries last for long time, they are bright and if you accidentally break them replacement does not cost the earth.
Thanks for the tip! Have you used both? Definitely worth the extra money?
