Which light are you using exactly. The hours and lumens sound good and I'm gradually changing my thinking about battery packs.
I commute out in the sticks as well. But unfortunately bits still go missing from bikes in the rack. If tools are required to remove your OK but lights, computers etc no chance. Wouldn't even leave my bottle on the bike.
I use a six pack, and I have the bracket on the bars fixed with a accuscrew security bolt (from here, think about making the whole bike tamper proof!)

I find the most common problem with cheaper lights is the little metal connections that the batteries touch or connects whatever else to whatever get squished down and don't connect properly, pull it apart and pull them all up a little with a small flathead screwdriver.

I have tons of DX lights of various types.
I have a big selection of rubber o-rings, and a glue gun. oOpen them up, add the dab of glue under the connections to push them against the battery better, add a o-ring for better sealing if needed. Done.

Does anyone have experience of Hope chargers going to shit after a short while?
I think I'm on my 3rd now and they're fine for a couple of months or so and then they need the charger/battery connecters wiggling a bit to get a connection (have the light on the charger go red). Once they get to this point it's usually only a very short time until they stop connecting altogether.
I've tried crimping or squashing connectors, elaborate setups with rubber bands to apply a bendign force to the connection etc but none of it is a realistic long term answer. Is there a better fix or even another charger I can get that will last?

Could you wire a new connector head in?
You might be able to buy a few from China for cheaps, then do your own QC.

Lezyne users.
Do you find that the rubber mounting strap is a bit shit? I've been using a micro on the rear for a week or so now and it keeps moving around when I go over bumps, its a bit loose on my seatpost, I cant make it any tighter than it already is (highlighted by the fact that when I attempted it this morning I snapped the strap)
Any ideas? live with it? use a shim?

Cheap Exposure lights on Sportspursuit at the moment. Almost tempted to buy another Spark, just because ...

rear blackburn flea has finally given up on charging from the usb and i never got on with the velcro starps that kept on breaking at the joins.
Knog blinders the next best alternative?

Very good deals on those exposures, might get a Spark too...

Moon comet or shield.

sweet. what's the the housing mech for those moon comets?
-
• #3213
Moon are great bright lights but their design is flawed; the rubber port that covers the USB is pretty flimsy and lets water and dirt through. My 2nd Moon Shield failed couple of weeks ago; replaced it with Exposure Tracer pretty happy with that.

+1 on the Exposures, great little lights and bracket also very solid. I'm sold.
-
• #3215
Yeah and brackets are better too .. moon shield is impossible to take out with gloves on.
Avoid knog like plague; over-designed POC

Comet has the rubber mount for standard seatpost, but you also another mount to attached to the saddle rails.

Just bought a Moon Mask from Rutland, I'll be interested to see how that works out. I'm slowly shifting to USB lights as I just can't be doing with buying or recharging batteries.

-
• #3219

they seem hellishly overpriced for what they are...

I've never had lezynes but in comparison with most lights in the market I think exposures are worth their money
Buy cheap buy twice etc.
Cue someone posting some £20 ebay light which is like a million lumens and 5 times cheaper

I need a set of teeny tiny lights to keep in my saddlebag.
I was thinking of the little moon gems. Any better ideas?
I have some EBay/DX lights but they arent really bright enough to be safe.

I've been using Blackburn Flea's for that - very small, velcro straps don't take up much space and charger is tiny. They were also super cheap at the time.
Sure there's better options out there but for £15 or so, they'll do for now.
I know I +1'd this but I seem to be having trouble with mine - not even had it a month yet.
It was working fine on my way home from work this evening, popped into tesco quickly and as I went to set off again it just wouldnt work. Something similar happened about a week or so back but I thought nothing of it. Replaced the batteries at the time and it was fine again... Replaced the b82rez again tonight but still not working hmm.
Will email Planet X and see what they say...
