  • My Moon Mask decided to unclip and disappear the other evening. I need a new front light now. Is there anything about that's wearable/clippy and rechargeable?

  • do you think the strap broke, or possibly user error?
you had the smaller one, right? the 5.0 is good, gets you seen but not so great for seeing by.

Mine was the Mask 5, I loved everything about it and I'd buy another but I like the idea of strapping one to me/bag instead of the bike.

I think it was probably user error, the straps feel so sturdy on those things I doubt it broke! I lost it within two minutes of leaving home so I probably didn't hook it in properly.

  • ah ok, I thought you had the 3 led version for some reason.

I guess I would worry that a front light attached to me/bag (strap) would change in its visibility to others on the road, as your posture on the bike changes. tuck down and it's suddenly facing down, sit up and it's pointing at the sky etc.

  • Great point, I'll order another Mask 5.

  • I always run two rears, one on the bike and one on the bag, for that very reason!

  • Just looking at the Portland stuff, has anyone any experience of the Fenderbot http://www.ridepdw.com/goods/lights/fenderbot%E2%84%A2

Thinking it might be a useful back-up light but there seems to be little detail on how it mounts other than you need to drill some holes (it'll be going on my Plug Grinder which has the hefty metal mudguards).

  • After a day on the trails and covered in mud I reckon you'd look good, and providing you don't adopt that guy cheesey grin....

It would be more to protect my eyes from snow. I have Radar XLs that cover really well. But they're a bit pricey to expose to constant gravel and salt from the road.

The flexible straps make them fit under anything which is handy.

  • Just ordered myself a Hope Vision 1 from Ribble for £64 delivered, I will be seen this winter!

  • Lezyne, Cateye and Knog on the rear, Cateye and Lezyne on the front, no messin', lit up like a Crimbo tree

I got one of these two weeks ago, had Evans match the price. Very pleased so far.

  • I have to wait for mine to be delivered but I do like getting stuff through the post, even when I know what it is!

  • Anyone used this cheapie combo?

Want it to replace these shit Cateye commuter lights:
Cateye HL-EL135 LED Black Front Light Black (switch doesn't work properly)
Cateye TL-LD610 LED Rear Light Black (works well but bracket wear causes light to rattle)

  • Those Smart are OK. Better brackets than Cateye for sure. Still managed to lose them though, but I'm the one to blame.

  • I've had Smart lights for ages, since Australia. They're cheap shit but just don't seem to die. No idea what possessed me to buy the Cateyes.

  • I've got that front. Pretty bright for the price. The switch appears to play silly buggers occasionally but that's only when turning it on, fine when it's on. Not much sideways spill to the light though for commuting.

I have similar Smart lights that where practically free from PX. Look and feel shite. But work and last well. Which kinda upsets my vain love of machined aluminium lights.

yes - the rear died but I didn't much like it anyway, odd light distribution. I like the front a lot, was bought to replace one that was nicked. I use in combo with a Moon Mask 5 - the Smart is better for seeing with, the Moon is better for being seen.

The Lunar 35 is the most powerful, but the Lunar 10 looks very similar and is pretty weak, and the white version is a Lunar 25...

Those smart lights are quite good actually. Used them as commuter lights for a few years the rear one died just before the Dunwich Dynamo but is now working again (I think a lot of people had this problem with water getting inside).

  • got some lenzeye femto's, pretty cool, pretty good so far..........

I've been using the femtos for a week or so now, they seem pretty good so far, much brighter than I was expecting for the price. I was worried about the light slipping downwards over time but that doesn't seem to be a problem.

  • the rears are really good, i have one, fronts arent good unless its just got having a front light when your riding through well lit inner city

  • These are very good in my opinion and half price:

  • Why oh why did they fugly up the long thing Cateye rear light? http://www.cateye.com/en/products/detail/TL-LD650/

I think mine has vanished into the morass of bike stuff at my brother's house.

  • Got told about this guy in Glasgow who reviews lights, pretty comprehensive coverage of front lights:
