  • Planning to ride Dunwich Dynamo if there will be enough people for second coach, so will possibly need good front light. Will be Fenix LD20 sufficient for night ride and which Cree led R4 or R5?

  • providing you carry spare batteries, yes.

I had a Hope Vision 1 which is as bright as the Fenix, so I can assure you it'll be more than enough for the DD, even on the lowest setting (the Hope that is).

  • ok thanks, LD20 R5 it is then.

  • Anybody tried Moon Gem 1.0 or 2.0?

  • Not been through this thread so aplogies if this is old news.

Brought a LED Lensor P7 (200 lumens) a few months back and have done a few night time canal commutes with it. I heard these torches are pretty versatile including mounting on top of firearms. The bike mount (sold seperatly) is pretty bulky amnd ugly so I'm using a cheap velco alternative thats a bit neater.

The build quality is incredible. It has 2 brightness settings - full beam annoys the hell out of car drivers but the dimmed setting is perfect for a town commute and lasts 120 hrs.

I have the Moon X300 front light, good beam, good lifespan, charges from USB and a good bracket build quality not quite up to USE or Hope but still very good and better than Cateye so I would happily consider one of their rears.

  • Faffy expensive shit.

  • Really cool looking. But my winter commute would kill them in a week.

I'd rather get some Reelights. That way you have reliable visability, even if you're a forgetful lazy fecker.

If I can make them work with front and rear panniers. Then I'm getting some. To use as safety lights in combination with my Magicshine set-up.

  • My front reelight stopped working. Looks like water got into it :(

  • Nights drawing in alarmingly fast. Have a Fenix LD20 which is great, but no rechargeable AA batteries which means expensive. Have looked through some of the thread but couldn't see any discussion around rechargeable batteries or chargers (apologies if info does exist). Recommendations or advice?

  • For a charger something like this

    with hybrio batteries

  • Maplin's own brand rechargeable are very good. And recycle your old non-rechargables plz.

  • ^ +1. The Maplin's rechargeables seem fine.

  • Rear light - Blackburn Mars 4.0 is one of the absolute best that money can buy. I will buy one next week. Trust me to have done the research on this, even though I'm not providing a list for rear lights...at the moment (I'm hoping someone else beats me to it). The £19.99 price from SJS is good, and is the same at Wiggle.

Buy one next week I said, but its actually taken me nearly 2 years to buy it. Should be delivered within a few days.

I saw someone going over Blackfriars Bridge one night with one of those, and the brightness was astonishing. I've since found out that it is one of the 2 (that I know of) rear battery lights that has a 1 watt output. The other is the Smart R1.

  • By the way, I hope all of you are focussed on sorting out your light situation, as winter darkness is right around the corner.

  • Winter is coming.

  • It's still August.

  • Winter is always coming.

  • It'll soon be easter

  • Anybody tried Moon Gem 1.0 or 2.0?

Now have a Moon Gem 2.0 on my TT bike. Weird rubber band mounting which seems like they forgot to change from front to rear, but that does mean it can be mounted on the saddle rails, which is handy for a race light. Brighter than a Knog Boomer straight on, but nowhere near the dispersion. Would not recommend for general use, but it's light, cheap and can be mounted on any standard saddle where it won't get knocked off by the pusher-off, so a decent choice for testers.

  • Winter is always coming.

It'll get the gush if it's not careful.

  • By the way, I hope all of you are focussed on sorting out your light situation, as winter darkness is right around the corner.

Dynamo has been ordered, now it's between the Schmidt edelux and the Supernova E3 pro / E3 triple for lighting.

  • Picked this up off another bike forum. Pretty cool but a bit expensive
