The countryside looked great, washed clean by the rain, and shrouded in mist. What kind of mentalist would pass up on the opportunity to commune with nature in all its moistened glory.
Although jonny pushed the envelope of natural communion today, bless his cotton socks ;)

I would imagine it would take a lot more than a blessing to bring jonnies socks back to life after his foray into the surrey hedgerows to commune with nature.

He didn't did he? A gentleman like jonny? Using the bear's bathroom? Good heavens.

had to be done i'm afraid - and meant i was carrying significantly less wait for the climb up to ranmore common.
funny reading the Falling Leaves thread about wearing sealskinz. i did the last 8 miles or so sockless ;)

I'm in the Epsom area and I frequently visit the hills mentioned above, albeit not on my bike. I'm generally trying to improve my fitness, any tips? Will I die with 48x16 gearing?
-
• #83
Yes. I think Jonny rode about a 70" gear but I had a 65" gear, 47x19, and that was fine for the hills on the route when we did it in the dark in August.

whizz, it depends how much you love your knees. running 48 x 16 is a very heavy gear for this terrain. i have the same now and will defo change it for our next visit. keep your eyes on this thread for when that will be. would be good to see you there

Any chance of a ride like this happening again soon?
I'm pretty new to London and so far the only bad thing about it is the lack of mountains, this ride looks pretty good, wouldn't mind giving it a go at some point.

I'm watching this space too. Just ordered another light (torch) to supplement the Hope: some tenner thing that I'll rubber band to my lid.
Only thing is, I finish work at 7pm - what's the latest train you'd all be likely to catch to make it a worthwhile/practicable ride still?

Well up for this now that I'm based in london instead of the suburbs.
Consider this space watched.

I shall watch this space also.
