• I like the idea but don't like the fact that if you can't make it regularly you can't play.

• ;267632']I don't agree with having so much admin. but do want a league. Fortnightly games is good, not too close, not so spread apart either. Not every team has to have a game every time though. There could be special challenges or grudgematches for negative points (loser loses points winner does not gain points) at the pickup nights and sunday.

The possibilities are endless! And it doesn't have to be so fucking regimented. Go play football if you want that.

+1

• I think it's a great idea and was discussing with various. My personal opinion is that the league games should be drawn and the 2 teams have to get together within 2 weeks / 3 week period, Location and time of their choice, we can post it up so others can watch but, it should be for the 6 to decide where when to best suit those 6 peoples lives. Keep pick up sundays, south weds, NE thurs etc and drop the odd league game in there too. Basically to go and play any team intensivly for 30 mins and share the points and goals or best of 5 would be brilliant. R.O.N and B.A.D played for 30 mins last saturday non stop and it was great, that can't be too hard to organise between 6 people can it? And at the end of the year we'll have some points and stats and beers!

• ^ That sound like a good system.

• ^^ Well thought out brendan, that was the plan so far as well, we just need to have a group decision about how many weeks between games

• 2/3 weeks between games, if a game doesn't get played, both teams get neg points. That way you don't need to fuck about organising it, teams can sort it between themselves as brendan suggested.

i'm with mike on keeping it casual, i think like a lotta people here, i have a problem with being told what to do and when.

• Get out! Now!

my theory was you will be told 2 teams to be played and then that will give a month the teams a month to get organised and played

fair?

• Yeah this method was my first thought but then I wondered if it might be easier to have a set day of the week which is designated "league polo day" to make it easier for people to plan their lives around.
Teams could still have 2-3-4 weeks to arrange the games but on a set day so we all know where and when to be there for it. I don't just want to play league games, I want to be able to watch the competition in action too!!

• I don't understand the system. Too many words to read and I'm too tired from work. But why not, in New York they have team nights on thursday. No throw-in games, just teams. But no league. And some teams change name every week.
Also I'm traveling a lot usually so might not be able to do that many games at fixed dates.

• No Fixed date, you just have n amount of time to liaise with the opposing team to work out when you can play.

• i think we should throw you all in a cage with sharpened mallets and let God sort things out. i'd be prepared to do the administering for this.

however, this might be because i just watched the Swayze bouncer epic, "Roadhouse" followed by "I Predict a Riot", a documentary about the Poll Tax Riots on Bravo, the most masculine channel on all of the television.

• I'm well excited about this. I think it's a great idea to get together and sort out all the details, just need to know when and where.

Oh, and as for number of games, 1 game of polo takes about 10 - 15 mins, so I don't think playing 4 games a month is too much or will take away from casual or pick up games. I also think a league would encourage new players to play more and get better. My 2p worth.

Exactly my point about letting the 6 sort it out, if they can so that it's on an existing polo night so much the better. But there was a period a few months ago that work literally fell on every single wednesday for about 4 weeks, so south polo was totally out.
Also if it's left up to the 6 we might be able to squeeze lunch time polo in which would be fun, except if you have to play bill then it'll just be business.

• Hmmm… Kind of like a 'loose' democracy…

Sounds much more in keeping with the general ethos of this site.

• Also if it's left up to the 6 we might be able to squeeze lunch time polo in which would be fun, except if you have to play bill then it'll just be a pleasure to receive a polo master-class from one of the acknowledged experts.

Fixed

Yeah, I think what Skoota is proposing is that the rest of us delegate 6 to sort out the details, which is fine by me.

• i think the league should be a league, it shoudl have a season, and game days. a season that starts and ends makes it easyer for new people and teams to join, and having game days allows for players and spectators to watch other games.

if we dont do it this way its not any diffrent to all the random drop in polo games

• why start a league if we don't want it to act like one.

• Isn't that a bit like saying "why ride a bike on the road if you don't want gears"?

no.

great but i think if you post matches as definate time slots and the 6 players who are involved can't do it, then spectators or not, it'll never work. I'm just saying that the league games should have some lee way in favour of those that have to play, rather than those who tell them when.
