my ears have been burning
so the league has some barebones at present, but it is definitely something that is going to happen. I sent an email to mike yesterday as we had a chat about it before building the court for the tournament. There shouldn't be a huge amount of help needed, you lot just gotta play polo.
Mike actually works and doesn't sit on the forum, so chances are he'll reply this evening.
BTW travelling wasn't quite right, i'm just going to uni in Sussex. So who's up for a meeting at some non pub location this week?
Ideas for location, i heard of this great place we go to after east drinks ;) -

Bill, you're alway in charge of talking shit.
This week is mental busy courtesy of London Calling etc. So I suggest that we diarise Sunday 31st of August for a meeting to work out what we do next and how to get this show on the road.
A sensible meeting place, as it's the only place that attracts all of the regular players pretty much every week, would be somewhere near Brick Lane at around 1ish - Can anyone recommend a pub/café.
What do you all think?

I can only do Wednesday evening this week.
BTW travelling wasn't quite right, i'm just going to uni in Sussex.
I knew you were going to be absent for some reason. i think the tequila that I drank after our chat may have altered the information I retained.

Oh I could do tonight if people want to get straight on it.

+1
The smart thing to do would be to hire a room - unless there is a space big enough to accomodate 30+ people.

Sunday 31st works for me.
-
• #63
yeah what dave said im in for 31st... before polo??
-
• #64
Do you think that 30+ people will want to come to this meeting?
Do you think it would be effective to have 30+ people at a brainstorm session? Can we have a show of hands of those who REALLY want to have an input into the startup/running of the league.

London Bike Polo League
Rules
Need to be finalisedThis can be done with a few players one evening.
Cannot change at any point through the season.
Discs highly recommended, bike spec limits?Teams
Criteria For Entering the League
3 Players
Live in London
Home Court (optional)
All weather pitch as well, league carries on through the winter.League Scoring
Ladder system
Teams can enter at any time of the season.
Something like each team starts the league with 50 points
You gain points from teams you play for winning a game and scoring goals.Win = 2 points + x points (x = number of places above in the ladder the losing team is, x <=5 )
Lose = -2 - x
Goal difference is added or taken away.
Points still need to be worked out – these can always be changed midway through the league as long as it is all kept in excel spreadsheet.Games
4 games per month – draws given at the start of the month, scores to be handed in at the end of the month or after each game is played.
Cannot be played at Brick Lane on Sunday – this is still a fun non-competitive time.
If a game is not played due to one team not being able to play, they lose 7 points (2+5) which go to the other team.Sponsorship
Should we try to get a sponsor/s
Big or small.Transfers
Should they be allowed at any point?
Only at certain times?League Cup
Should there also be a cup tournament going on at the same time as the league.
How long should the season be?
Should there be an entry fee?
Should there be prizes at the end? Top finisher, top goal scorer, etc.Team Entry Deadline? 21 / 28 September
Start of league? 29 September / very early Octobe -

I think that a lot of people will want to have input. And at some point you will have to get a mandate, ie publish something, be it an agenda, a rule-book or similar, and have it approved by your players.
If you don't seek to involve as many people as possible in the start-up, you narrow your mandate, which leads to dissafisfaction and dissent.

yeah thats a excellent starting point... i think we should muddle though some of the questions... and other issues mallet spec. ball spec. court spec (condition, goal sizes), fouls, sin bins.
im bloody excited now.

I'm fairly sure all the groundwork for a league is there. We just need to start it.
