reffed games, and a committee to run it.

ok, there are two parts to decisions, will it help the game (refs will help keep it fair) but logistically that will make game meetings more difficult if extra people are needed, but this can be discussed at a later date
don't forget there have been no refs until the tournament, i haven't seen any problems, so are they 100% necessary

I don't care all that much about refs or not. I don't cheat and don't expect you jerks to cheat either. But I guess refs aren't a bad thing.
But what about this tapping stuff? why just one?

Here is my opinion great point made by bill, but we can have less people at the start to work out simple stuff then make sure that everyone is in agreement. It doesn't take 50 people to write up a simple set of guidelines.
Yeah, I am not suggesting that you/we need to have 30 people to write the rules, but most people are going to want to have a say. Much better to canvas as much opinion as possible before any meeting, draw up an agenda, which is public, and then work it through.
In my experience of messenger organisation (which is similar to the polo thing, although not identical), the problems start when people start to believe, whether rightly or wrongly, that things are being decided in secret. If it's all out in the open, and everyone has had their chance to contribute, then it cuts out a lot of unneccessary bs.
I suggest that a deadline of Weds next week is set for submissions, questions etc and then draw it all up in an agenda form for consideration by the meeting.

and let's be honest, the refs did fuck all anyway. :P

thanks bill, great points.
when i get everyone's email addresses i can email them all telling them about the meeting and the deadline for questions, and other information. Do you think i could add all the emails from the tournament emails we recently had?thanks

u don't need ref's, seems to create more arguments than solves.
NE court play is stupid with goals forward, court too small!

You'll have to check that with Roxy, I can't remember the waivers we signed but they may be covered by data protection laws. -

They did keep score! We always lose track of the score when we play pickup. You wouldn't want that to happen during a match - big potential for arguments.

they only cause problems if you dont know the rules. in alot of games there are people that do things like go down and lay in the way of play, or interfer with play when they need to tap out, having some one tell them to get out of the way helps, as would having some one who can definitively call a shuffle or a shot.
and going behind the goals adds to play.

Only if they were stored on a computer! But anyway I think we were cc-ed rather bcc-ed so I bet we all have them anyway...

Yeah keeping score is vital. In almost every game someone on the court asks the crowd what the score is.
Refs are needed for this. It's not hard, there are/will be a hard-core few that always show up to play/watch. these people should be refs. Only one of them needs to be present on the league game day/s.
-
• #117
flo used to ref games at bricklane. It always made the games better, no arguing of shitty 50 / 50 calls - the ref's decision was final.
-
• #118
but surely the majority of league games will happen on any of the polo nights, therefore there'll be lots of crowd there anyway to keep score.
anyway IMO refs may be nice to have but should in no way be considered essential, i fear that making proper refs a necessity will doom the entire endeavour. -

and sometimes the crowd has to ask the court... refs should be there, if only for score keeping purposes

i'm glad everyone is keen to discuss things about refs, but this can happen later on, when everyone is around at the meeting, so no one is excluded

here is an idea for keeping score

Surely that's the score from the FFF vs Rollapaluza match?

+1 for refs, and for behind the goal play, adds more options and keeps players moving
