  • no, the forum is going down hill because we aren't making newbies feel welcome..... too many idiotic posts, to many people thinking they are the font of all knowledge about fixed gear, too many derogatory comments about people their bikes and their querys.
As my parents told me as a kid " if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all "

maybe we could set up a sticky for people to wave their willes at one another, any stupid posts idiotic arguments can be bumped to a seperate thread so we don't have to read the crap that a lot of people come out with.

There's far too much saltiness around at the moment - whether it's the 'you don't know me' shit that went down in the 'names and faces...' thread a couple of weeks ago, to the nonsensical 'Going to a Mosque...' hijack that seems to still be ongoing (come on guys - what exactly is it you're trying to achieve?).

In the end I appreciate that some of you are meeting more and more 'in the real world' and so don't have as much need for the 'let's talk about bikes and riding' side of things, but still... Lots of post/rep whoring going on as well. Maybe it's an inside joke but still...

Oh - and I do stand by what I said recently about the growing number of crap threads. Granted as the forum grows there are going to be different 'types' of people with different interests, and so their views and interests are going to spread across the forum, but still, there are some really crap threads out there.

Oh bollocks - did I really just write a serious post about an internet forum on an internet forum? Someone please neg me...

  • maybe we could set up a sticky for people to wave their willes at one another, .

I think such a sticky would be tricky, Dicki.

  • what constitutes a newbie. ive been here since march, am i still one?

in the short time ive been here i have seen a definate change, and yea probably in the downhill direction. but i guess thats tough luck. so when i first discovered the forum, i lurked as people do, read a bunch of stuff, kind of got to know some characters by reading what they had to say and it all became kind of familiar. so i joined up intoi a forum which was to me familiar like i said. as more and more new peope come along, they get judged by the standard of the familar people, which is a high standard and mostly they fall short. perhaps because they havent been around long enough for them to become familiar to me. who do you trust more, an old friend who's ways you know and recognise, or someone who just struck up a conversation with you at a bar? so there you go newbies, some of you might be idiots, as are some of the older members, but if the non idiots stick around a while, you might just be able to blend into the background of familiarity and it'll be fine. in the meantime, stop posting shit.

as for the mosque thread, personally, its saved this forum for me. shows me that people can still have a real, informed, clear discussions while still maintaining their sense of humour and manners. instead of just popping up, calling someone a cunt and fucking off again, not adding anything of value (comedy or otherwise).

  • oh do shut up pontificating on and on, if you like that sort of thing I strongly recommend marriage, and do try and concentrate on this one-

then when you've worked that one out try this one:

  • it's all well and good being nice to newbies, but if someone's gonna show up and start 5 idiotic threads on their first day, without searching or bothering to read around a bit first and get the feel for the place - THEN get offended by the inevitable sledging...

    then fuck'em.

I don't walk into local pubs, leave the door open, yell something stupid like "How do I order a beer?" and then try to sell the locals a dodgy arrospok...

    Fixed
    ;-/

  • It's all true, alas. Unlike my arrospoks, which are out of true and very, very dodgy.

  • You wan dee wee dee with free arrospok?

  • in the meantime, stop posting shit.
