  • Ok so it wasnt quite as bad as ed's experience but getting a pair of 28s on my thin rims cost me a good hour and a half tonight and 2 tubes.... hmmm, failiure of skill there methinks :p

After an quick run round they do feel nice, definately soak up the road buzz better than 25s but they dont feel too heavy or dead when accelerating. Skidding is also pretty good too, even for a fixie newbie like me... If they last like people claim then I will be a very happy penguin indeed.

Thanks for the consumer advice :) would never have picked these off the shelf without this feedback.

  • Is anyone using a 28 on a skinny racing rim - Any roll-off problems?
I was thinking about getting one but am using narrow rigida rims.
    They are 13-14mm internal

I'm using 28 Schwalbe on those P-X wheels. Not troubles so far. Not sure how skinny they are though.

  • Oh and it's reflective but since I'm 3800% man*, it's all good.

*Yes, murtle, that percentage applies to my weight as well

  • Just put a pair of randos on some deep vs and they were the easiest tyres i've ever put on.
Strange because my thumbs were torn apart when trying to put them on some open sports.

  • 4 weeks of usage and finally red line's showing up.

I decided to timed how long the tyres last just to see how long it last, only several more layer to go, oddly enough it actually srtart to feel nicer when skidding.

  • you must be skidding almost constantly..! I've been riding mine for longer and still no red. And i do big sideways skids to traffic lights at least twice every journey...

  • you must be skidding almost constantly..

pretty much yeah, on top of a commute of 150 miles/week, can't help it frankly! got a spare Randonneur either way so I'm not really fussed.

  • ed, that tyre is on back to front

  • pretty much yeah, on top of a commute of 150 miles/week, can't help it frankly! got a spare Randonneur either way so I'm not really fussed.

And it's going to be really easy replacing that tire right? :)

  • @ed, you do 30 miles a day?? where from/to?

  • I smell something

  • it's not me

  • @ed, you do 30 miles a day?? where from/to?

23 actually, with the extra fews miles are usually going around town, as well as heading to Kingston for uni.

ed, that tyre is on back to front

    oh fuck that.

  • ed, that tyre is on back to front

same thing happened with my randonneur, had the tread facing backwards

was pretty easy to take it off and put it on right though ;)

  • ed, that tyre is on back to front

    must spread rep

    x

  • Before I fit my rear tyre, which fucking way round is it supposed to go actually?

oh and fitting it to the DP18s was a piece of piss.
taking the shitty halo tyres off was a mission

  • Before I fit my rear tyre, which fucking way round is it supposed to go actually?

There's a tiny arrow on it somewhere and the word 'rotation'.

  • ^ Murts was on a wind-up!

I got two more today; new delivery at parkers has the Scotchlite strip on them.

  • nope sharksar was right.
mine fromn cyclebasket, all 8 completely black.

typed that whilst putting one bead into the rim.
    sexual.

  • and done.

  • I swear they only put the arrows there to piss you off when you notice them going the wrong way. Gatorskins have them and they are practically bald - wtf?

  • i'm pretty sure ed's tyre is the right direction anyway, the v in the tread should point towards the front of the bike should it not?

  • Yep, it's correct. Just a piss take due to the events that occurred earlier in this thread...

  • fuck me though, chains are the most evil thing in the world.
its taken me an hour to get the right length of chain on there, thanks to almost continual breakage.
    cunts.
