Hi guys, I'm Keira and I'm new here. You can find me on twitter if any of you care for that sort of thing. I'm just getting in to track cycling - caught the bug after a couple of taster sessions at Manchester and Herne Hill.

Just saw some horrendous driving in a back street in Stokey. People standing in the street couldn't believe their eyes.
Silver Audi A3 going too fast to see its plate. Easily 60mph, most likely more, the entire length of Oldfield rd, front and rear plastic banging off the speed humps as he passed. Anyone who knows that street will know there's only room for one car at a time. Seeing a car fanging it like that is horrific. No-one would have stood a chance if he'd hit them.

Hello there,
I'm new here. Joined up as I've just bought a road bike with the intention of making a single speed and could do with a bit of advice about doing it.
And I'd like to properly identify the frame and fork. -

I would say keep it as a road bike, buy a track bike

Alright people, I've just started working on an old dawes galaxy frame, aiming to tour in the summer :) Got a double chainring up front but any suggestions as to a 8,9 or 10 speed cassette? Still trying to decide on that one. Cheers

Hi guys, not new to fixed gear or many other disciplines. Will be nice to meet new people. Can't wait to get out of the nursery, need to sell this bike.

I dont believe you!!!

I'd go 9 speed as the cassettes are still available easily and 10 speed is too thin for serious touring use IMHO

a 10 speed cassette is thinner than a nine speed one. You need those stupid tiny spacers behind the cassette that are easy to lose. They are much more sensitive to set up and the chains don't seem to last as long.
Less is more if you can still get the bits!
9 speed still readily available as it's still the MTB standard (although 10 is creeping into that, it's not compatible with road 10) 9spd MTB IS compatible with road.
cheers
