hey, i'm pretty new to this but am just looking for a nice single speed bike i can buy in good condition. I'm not a hipster and I've learnt through others mistakes to not call them 'courier bikes'! I just need some advice and direction into not buying a complete death-trap so i can cycle to work. Any ideas anybody? Thanks in advance.

Don't buy a unipack or a create. What's your budget?

The first answer is correct, the second will lead to regret.

ta very much, i will give it a wide berth in that case.
Bit of a headache finding a bike but patience is a virtue I guess. It's a potential minefield with lots of people trying to just rip others off. I'm just desperate not to buy a deathtrap, oh and get ripped off. Thanks for the advice though, i'll keep an eye on the classified.
cheers

hey, utterly new to this, just bought a single speed (gumtree, doh) - 1. chain snapped. 2. Closer inspection (why didn't I inspect closer before buying, dohdoh) - front chainset teeth down to gums, rear cog not in any way aligned.
Should I just write it off, or get new back wheel & front chainset? And - is that all you have to do? Buy rear wheel, put on bike - or is there something more technical than that?
(I did say I'm a total newbie)
