• Thanks.

I have popped off a few emails, however would still appreciate a recommendation if anyone has experience using somewhere for bicycles.

  • Anyone had clear coat over decals on powder coat? I've heard Armourtex do it, would like to see a photo of results

  • Be mental careful with chrome plating, and polishing, if it's done badly you'll have the frame eaten away in no time.

BER Polishers in Smethwick were who I used years and years ago no idea if they still exist.

  • Just had this done for my daughter by a company called powder plus in Sawston. Cost £65 including the sandblasting but it's come out well

  • Good job!

  • wish i had my holdsworth done there now.....

  • They're gone now...

  • Thinking of getting a steel frame powder coated for the first time, what do I do with the carbon forks though?

  • @at313 theres apparently new out the BLB stock, which is supposed to be easy to apply and requires mimimal prep.
I think its called something like spray.bike
    Good luck

  • Bbpowder coat the frame in RAL colour and have fork wet painted to match.

  • spray.bike doesn't look bad online, to be honest though I'd be quite happy with someone who'll do powder coating and paint the fork for me though. Been a few years since I sprayed something... probably around 20!

@coldharbour an online search for Bbpowder brings up a makeup range

  • I've used spray.bike. It's easy and it looks good...for a while. It's just not very durable, even if you use multiple coats and lacquer it.

  • Does anyone have any thoughts/tips on Plastidip-type resprays for bike frames? Would it be best to mask off dropouts etc where it would likely start peeling?

Have been intending to do my gurlfriend's mtb for a while now. She's keen on the idea of a chameleon/flip finish, thinking two cans of black, one of flip and one of gloss should do it?

  • Ok, so just looked at the armourtex price list and it turns out they can paint the forks. Sorted

  • If it was me, I would have both frame and fork wet painted to be sure to have exact match. That or have the fork painted in another complimenting colour.

  • Yeah it had crossed my mind to have forks plain black and choose a colour for the frame. I imagine having the frame and forks painted will put the cost up a fair bit? I'd planned to go with powder coat as it seems easy enough with armoutex and the price is good. Different shades of black don't usually look too bad together so thinking black powder coat frame, black painted fork. Any suggestions of London (northish) based paint workshop?

  • Anyone used armourtex since it's changed hands/moved?

  • I was going to ask the same thing. The move was mid-November 2016.
The bike shop is closed and they only do powder coating now.
Does anyone know if it is a new owner with new equipment?

Prices keep increasing too! Steel frameset is £84 with lacquer. Alu is £97!!!!

FYI - the new address is out in the sticks near Ikea Tottenham:

    Armourtex Powder Coating UK LTD
    Unit D4 & D5
    Hastinwood Trading Estate
    35 Harbet Road
    London N18 3HT

Are there other alternatives in London?

  • Mario Vaz? Cole Coatings?

  • As in more cost effective alternatives.

It is easy to find more expensive ones ;-)

  • I found out that Armourtex had moved. Today. When I went to drop a frame off.
    sigh.

    I'm off here:
    http://www.purposepowdercoatings.com/
    soon.

I need a glittery purple frame. NOW.

  • Please let me know how you get on - Service / quality / choice of colour / price.

Armourtex are poor value for money.
Last frameset I took cost my £40 at my LBS to get both BB an HT faced + threads chased... on top of the Armourtex costs...

  • Really? Why so poor?

  • Ah I didn't realise there was any such thing in London ;)

I'm also interested in these generic powder coaters, I'd guess you have to mask everything off yourself before hand? Honestly though isn't Vaz good value?

Think I've given purpose powder coaters a ring before, can't remember it being astoundingly cheap...

  • I have to say that my experience has always been opposite to Vince, They've been super careful with all the frames Ive taken. My Genesis has loads of bolt holes and they were all perfect on return
