  • And 5,6,7,8,9,10.

  • Tynan, in the round, we will all meet people that care and those that don't. On here, we like and dislike each other, but even those that don't like me, would not be happy if I had a bad accident......unless of course the person in question cared so little for the forum users, that their only concern would be sales and profit.

Call me sentimental. I'm from the Caribbean. Sorry.

  • Ebays good for buying a shot gun and shooting the sellers tires as they are riding, mad max styleeeeee!!!!!
Better still shoot his balls off, hahahahahahaha!?!?!?!?

  • People are hardly doing a similar thing - they are selling something that was theirs - they didnt buy it to sell and make a profit -

In essence, Roberto buys and sells to make a profit, so he must be the very definition of 'evans' under your interprtation!

There is obviously a large group of people here who know each other, who meet up and are friends - not everyone wants to do that and not everyone should abide by the 'consensus' you believe in.

You guys are taking this community thing waaaay to seriously and are interpreting it your own way - there are no rules saying you cant sell something here without posting - and to be honest, thats a lame rule to make anyway.

Let people buy, sell and ride.

Regarding selling you didn't really read what I wrote did you?
And no there isn't rules, but there is respect.

  • I think the classified section is there for buying and selling.

Dudes on the forum who people know and roll with regularly will naturally get more interest when they have bits to get rid of; meanwhile people who come on pretty much only to sell stuff - as long as they're not spamming and doing it in a dicksplashy way (eg a whole new thread for every spoke they're selling) - I think it's fair enough. It's hard enough to find some of the shit we're into anyway, if people come to us it's got to be better than trawling ebay hasn't it (even though we all do trawl ebay anyway....)?

I do kind of draw the line at companies though - I don't actually think a lot of us do come on here to be sold at like punters. It is a forum for goofing off, geeking out and larking around, not really being sold at as a demographic. I'd hate to see Starbucks offering "Fixiefrappalattes" on these pages.

I guess that's where the problem starts; companies can masquerade as forumengers. Geez, even religions can.

oh i don't know, bike time for me..

  • You guys are taking this community thing waaaay to seriously

Jodie_harsh, you're probably right. Maybe we are taking it too seriously. Margaret Thatcher once said, "There is no such thing as society".

I can tell you this; that I disagreed with that statement as much as her inflicting the poll tax on the Scots first (as an experiment), and then rolling it out across the UK.

Societies are built up by various communities. As technolgy advances, so will the nature of communities. But communities and retail spots are different. Here we fail at the Easties TT, or turn up with improper rum at a community bbq. Of course people should sell what they feel is appropriate, wherever they like. But to use without contributing at all, is a disservice and disrespectful to those that believe in this community.

Its people behind the tags, not just computers and credit cards.

I was never with Maggie (The Iron Lady), but if your views echo hers, thats good too. Anon.

    What ? :D

Are you suggesting that someone who attempts to sell bike parts here without first posting on other subjects is more likely not care if you are in a 'bad accident' ?

On what evidence do you base this nonsense non-sequitur.

Also is there a connection between being from the Caribbean and how sentimental you are ? Are people who are not from the Caribbean less sentimental ?

  • Tynan old fruit, we still eat white people in the area of Grenada that I grew up. Your legs look a bit too yummy for you to be getting all "fresh" like that. :)

I bet with a bit of butter, after frying your quads, the rum would wash you down just fine.

    Peace baby.

  • GA2G, a coule of questions for your brain:

Imagine you have been looking for a rare 1972 lo-pro frame for many years, then someone, who has never posted here before, posts - in the classifieds section (something you are free to ignore) - the very frame in you have been searching for ?

Would you join in the chorus of fuck off you cunt (or whatever your own way of telling him he is out of line might be) - or do you abandon your arbitrary tribal moralising and try and buy the frame ?

Also in my above 'lens' analogy (again here below). . . .

"*Suppose you have some old camera lenses you want to get rid of, a quick Google brings up 'PhotographyUK.co.uk' - seems like the right sort of place, most of the forum members are based in the UK, it's even got a classified section, you - quite logically - think these people may well be interested in these old lenses, so you join up and post your lenses in the classified section.

Should you be unperturbed if you are told by the forum members to fuck off and take your shit elsewhere ?"*

. . . . if you had to sell something like this, would you simply rule out photography forums, and not show this photography community the lenses you are getting rid of, even though logic tells you that these are exactly the people who would be interested in this stuff ?

  • Jeeeeesus
Lighten up and ride people. there are in excess of 8000 threads on this baby

Kill Him, Kill Him, Kill Him, Kill Him, Kill Him, Kill Him, Kill Him, Kill Him, Kill Him, Kill Him, Kill Him.

  • Tynan, I have been serious and jokey about this, but to be truthful, I feel that it is such a simple premise, that over-egging this pudding of explanations benefits no-one.

It only personal, but some others agree, that.....this place is sort of like a house that is open to relatives. Nobody has to like each other, but we abide by each other, and try a little bit to respect each other. So in this open-door-policy house, we have a person walk in off the street, walks straight into our loo, and does a Saddam in there (the mother of all shits)....then walks out.

Its ok, it just appears that the open-door-policy can just be ever so rarely abused. Yes, come in and shit at our expense. The door is always open, but there are ways of doing things.

Maybe because I'm older than some, I might see things differently. Maybe because I grew up in other countries. I don't know the answer.

As for you photographic anology (more appealing to me), yes, I'd use the opportunity to sell stuff. But I would check to see if its ok. Its just the way I would do it. The person who was trying to sell on ebay and here - good luck to them. But I contest that this place is not just html being randomly fired across the multiverses, its a place, and people are here.

We don't have to honour allcomers. I wasn't given a great greeting, but thats how it is. He wants a free ride. Let him have it.

I have no quarrel, just a viewpoint. Et tu Tynan?

  • peter and brain are both allowed to hawk their wares in the classifieds.

and everyone else is allowed to take the piss and/or opine on the item/s for sale and/or the manner in which they are proffered.

much like the freedom we experience in real life*

*except for tynan, he's a slave.

  • As for you photographic anology (more appealing to me), yes, I'd use the opportunity to sell stuff. But I would check to see if its ok.

So you would have no problems if these people first ask permission ?

Can you answer my other question (the hypothetical frame you have been after) ?

  • *except for tynan, he's a slave.

I am your slave my sweet master.

  • I won't ignore questions Tynan as its rude, so..........

I would not buy the frame, even if it is the one I was looking for, as it would be against my principles, to buy under those circumstances. ie. From a person who I felt was somehow "using" the forum without a contribution.

Hopefully my different way of breaking eggs will not revisit Lilliputian history.

You loose out on the frame you have always wanted, the seller is prevented from sharing the parts he/she has for sale, a wonderful delivery of a lose-lose situation for the consequentialist at the hands of the moralist. :)

I think we simply have differing views on what is best in these situations and will have to agree to disagree here.

Until the next (identical) argument ! :p

  • Boring racists...

  • Boringest!

  • is Your Ego For Sale Too ?

    Wac!

  • . . .actually I have one other question for you my sentimental friend:

If you would refuse to buy this frame, do you also think it should be denied to other forum members who might also have been looking for exactly this frame.

  • Not only that, I think I might have the exact frame you're talking about..anyone interested?

  • I might be inclined to question the quality of said item, and wouldn't feel as comfortable buying from someone just turning up - when a forumenger sells something, we've got some element of a guarantee on quality - or at least honesty, and that counts for a lot.

The issue for me is that if they're trying to offload track/fixed stuff in general, then they'd be into the fixed 'scene' - so why don't they get to know the site before selling and stick around afterwards?
