• What you want is the best fixie for city use. It's what we all want.

  • Just received the bi-annual brochure from EdinburghBicycleCooperative, and they've now got the Fixie Inc. Backspin on sale for at £577.99.

And their own brand Revolution Track is now Navy Blue, and only 300 quid. With their Revolution Courier Single at a mere 249 smackers.

  • If anyone is in the hunt for a new (honest, I saw it myself today) 54cm OTP, A.E.Wilson Cycles of Peckham have a LeMond Fillmore for sale, at £400.oo. I wondered if it was really "new", as its not been produced for a year or more. But it looks unused. Good bike.

  • does anyone know if the 2010 fuji track comp comes with a drilled fork?

the spec sheet i have seen says it comes with a rear brake only, which seems odd

  • The Schwinn Madison is very different in its 2010 guise. It looks very confused actually.

  • I agree. Doesn't look very nice. Then again, I can't remember if I liked it much before.

  • Just wanted to give a short review of the 2010 KHS Flite 100, which I have bought about three months ago:

    • very nice frame, nice welds
    • good geometry throughout
    • feels quick and responsive without being too harsh to use on the road/commute
    • eyelets for mudguards & water bottle
    • really good powder coating
    • wheels are LB high flange 36 spokes, pretty standard but so far no issues, used throughout winter in all weather

    • stripped one thread of the stem = had to buy new one

    • drop-out fail: wheel can't be slammed all the way as tire will hit seat tube?!
-/+ stickers are under clear coat = can't remove them for that ninja look

    • 1" steerer on the fork (why not 1 1/8")

  • advice needed guys, SE draft lite for little initial dorrah but will need new cranks, wheels, fork and bar and stem, (and its hi-ten) or the lager for a bit more and only need to buy new bars and stem, maybe wheels in the future

  • Hello all... I've used the tried and tested method of 'search bar' (the toolbar, not the local) but couldn't find any opinions on here on the Felt Brougham. Has anyone had any first hand experience of one? I've found pretty positive reviews on other websites and no hugely negative ones but, for my sins, I actually rate the advice on this forum so thought I'd ask. I'd always prefer to test ride a bike before buying obviously, but in the case of the Brougham I haven't found one in any LBS to do so.

Anyway, there's a deal online for £405 which falls within my budget... http://www.cyclelane.co.uk/products.php?plid=m7b48s338p2267&rs=gb. I'm new to fg/ss so any views on the bike / components would be much appreciated... cheers!

I haven't seen or ridden that Felt, but if you feel you like its looks, I doubt you will disappointed.

I guess the cranks could be better (I think other OTPs in the same price range have at least brand names attached to theirs), but other than that, it should be okay. The gear ratio could be lower, I think. At 74 inches it does not need super human effort to blast away, but a tad lower number might be more suitable depending, of course, on your planned routes.

Still, I believe there are more knowledgable inviduals, here. That was my view, but you'd do well to listen to others' opinions, too.

Or, then again, you could just leave us ruminate, go ahead, buy and ride.

  • Cheers skunkworks and blake.. very much appreciated! I like the overall look / geometry of the bike, not sure I'd automatically choose the mixed black & white tires / rims, but certainly not offended by them either.

My issue is I'm looking at budget bikes which I'll probably end up changing components like handlebars straight away, not just because of quality, but personal preference. Like the Fuji Track for example - frame looks solid but I'll be putting risers and front brake on anyway, so seems to make sense to start of with a bike that has them, like the Brougham.

To be honest, the more I think about the changes I'll be making from the off, the more I think building my own from scratch makes sense. There is that fear factor of f*cking it up, but hand picking components and getting my hands dirty defo appeals. Anyone know a good bike build book / video / website? Actually, scratch that, I'll head over to a 'build' thread before I get shouted at... cheers again folks!

  • I think the Felt Brougham is possibly the best single-speed bike at its price.
Good looking, and from a good maker.

so you work for felt then?,

  • No. I work for you.

    ......But without pay, or appreciation.

  • don't worry, the order for my brougham was processed yesterday so I should be riding it by the weekend, lets have a picture shall we?

  • GA2G... out of interest, would you rate the Brougham's frame / components /wheels higher than the Fuji Track, or isn't there much in it? If I don't attempt to build from scratch (which is looking less likely as I'm just desperate to get back on the road asap) I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Track or the Broughton within my budget (£400ish).

If going for the Track I'd be spending roughly another £50 on front brake and riser bar which would put it at a similar price. Obviously it comes down to personal choice in the end and I'm not expecting anyone to make a decision for me, but I'm happy to ask the question of those more knowledgeable on such matters. I look forward to hearing how Blake gets on with his Brougham at the weekend, enjoy it mate... cheers y'all

  • Different types of bikes. The Fuji Track can actually be used on a track, due to higher bottom bracket. The angles used to be tighter a few years ago, but Edscoble discovered that things have changed. Essentially, the Brougham is designed for the road only. The Fuji Track is more of a dual purpose bike.

You won't take a Brougham to a track, so if road riding is what you're after, then maybe the Brougham is the preferable. But have a read of the Fuji Track thread, and see what owners say about their bikes.

I haven't seen even one Brougham on the road, but Fuji Track bikes are as common as muck. ;) I can't help you choose, but only provide some info.

At that price point, the quality of the components is moot. Each has very passable equipment.

  • Much appreciated GA2G, as always. Christ.. is it really half midnight?? No-one told me when I signed up how addictive this forum would be. Time to blow out the candle, don the eye mask and count some sheep... good night all.

  • I'm 99% sure the Brougham is the bike for me... but the SE Draft Lite keeps whispering sweet nothings in my ear, and at a penny short of 270 notes it could be the affordable choice - http://www.onyerbike.co.uk/se_bikes_draft_lite

I'd prob eventually swap out wheels, stem, bar, crank etc, but does anyone have any personal experience of the frame? Is it pretty duff??

    Man, I wish I wasn't such a pauper! Spare any change guv'nor...

  • Huckster, one of the bikes is very very nice - Brougham [20.50lbs],
and the other bike is very very heavy - Draft Lite 25.7 lbs.

What I haven't included, is the new all-white Schwinn Cutter 2010, that I saw today in Edwardes of Camberwell (Cycles). £299.

I'd wager its nicer than the Draft Lite.

What bike size suits you best by the way?

  • Cheers for the Schwinn recommendation, but think the Brougham has won the battle. 56cm prob fits my 6ft frame the best... why's that, you getting rid of an old bike?

  • Because I saw a Schwinn Cutter (2009 - Black) in size 59cm, at DiscountBicycles. £249.

    Too big for you though.

  • Cheers for thinking of us though mate. I actually just ordered the Felt Brougham today from Cyclelane.co.uk and I'm a very happy chappy. They had it on sale last week for just £405, but when I went to order it the sale had ended and was back at £450. Luckily the guy who runs the shop, Jon, is a really sound guy and he let me have it for the sale price.. top bloke! Can't wait to get my grubby little mits on her...

  • Since they were good enough to still sell you the bike at the sale price, I've included them in the Cycle Shops list.

I also notice they're selling the stupendously priced Kona Grand Wagon. Only £1,655.99. ;)
