• They have taken the style from the original Ripper and put into a 700c frame quite well (loop tail, single tube at top of seatstays, gusset on top/head tube join, landing gears etc,) but a lot of that would be lost unless the riders are all old and 40 or over (like me!)
Was also a bit of the pricey side, but the so was the BMX Ripper in the 80's so they got that right too :-)

  • ok.. this is very funny.. check it out £899

  • Ive decided to buy the Globe Roll 1 (after my failed attempt at building my own fixed gear bike)
It seems like a good start off point.

    however I'm struggling with sizing.
I cant decided between the medium and large,
I'm 5ft 9.6inches with an in seam of about 32inches

This is the geometry of both sizes.

    http://www.globebikes.com/us/en/globe/GlobeBike.jsp?pid=10ROLL1#/geometry/

Any Help would be most appreciated.

    cheers.

What's even funnier kevinsays, is that this thread is about a list of OTP bikes, and you haven't looked at the list - page one of this thread. You'll find the Marin Ignacio has been there all the time.

scotiax, you'll be a medium. I've done that without checking the sizing guide, because we're the same height. Large would be too big. Though, your inseam appears to be a tad longer than mine. If you can get round to Evans, they should let you try the sizing. Plus, they and CycleSurgery will price match to anybody else.

  • Giant have taken the opposite approach, by dropping £150 off the 2010 version of the Bowery 72.

Which will be available from January 2009, with an estimated shipping time of -5 days to dealers owing to postal strikes and Large Hadron Collider malfunction.

  • Excellent find Ed. I think the Fixie Inc Black Jack, Kona Grandwagon, SE Premium Ale, Viner Citta would all fail to sell in a shop that also sold that Cinelli Gazetta. Only the Condor Classico Pista and Ellis-Briggs Fixed Road bikes would stand a chance....IMO.

    EDIT:
Cinelli are also doing the Bootleg Mystic Rats in all white

I have spent the past few weeks checking out OTP's in every possible way (except seeing and trying them live, as that aint possible where I live (Denmark).
As i got my old bike (8 internal gears and roller brakes) stolen, I am looking for a fixed bike, as I really loved the ones I have tried.
I was about to purchase a Charge Plug Racer, but the 2009 model is sold out, and the 2010 isn't available before December.
When thinking about it twice, I might have read a few too many rants about the CPR's massive weight, which actually might be a downer for me, as I would prefer a swift and light bike.
I must admit, that I have pretty much fallen in love with the white Cinelli Mystic Rats, but I simply can't find any UK or DE-based webshop that has them.
Does anyone know where to purchase it, or won't it simply be available before next year?

Chicken Cycles (bike is at bottom of page) are the importers/distributors here, so you can't buy direct from them,
but anyone who orders from them (thats almost all bike shops) can order it for you.

  • kerley, many people actually stick with the gear ratios that come with an OTP.

What are you basing that statement on? When you say 'many', did 'many more' actually change the gear? How do you know whether they did or didn't?

  • You need religion nimbhus. Nothing else will help. The treatments have failed.

  • GA2G - Genesis are doing x2 options for the Day One for 2010 - a flatbar and a dropbar CX type affair. Might want to add them when you're doing your next update.

    Thanks for the link.
I called a few of the shops that has other Cinelli bikes, and they all told me, that the 2010 line wouldn't be available before february-march 2010.
I really like the pink Cinelli Gazzetta aswell (Lovely fork, yucky grips), but that is getting released at the same time.

I like the Condor Potenza and the MASI Speciale aswell, but can't find any of those either.
I am actually pretty sure, that I won't get a Charge Plug Racer now, and go for a lighter and faster bike. The Fuji Track 2010 is nice aswell, but also feb-march 2010 :-/

  • The Condor Potenza is available from CONDOR.

Masi Speciale Fixed will possibly be available eventually, but at the moment MasiGuy is working on importing them to the UK.

Thanks, I didn't realise, that Condor was a store-specific brand!

For updates, the Charge Plug Racer 2009 model is sold out everywhere. The new version will be available in late November.
I havent been able to dig up the Giant Bowery 84' 2009 or the Specialized Langster Monaco anywhere either. (I have mailed all the stores listing them, but they've all replied that they're sold out)

"The Urban Singles range are a dedicated fixed gear/flip flop bike, in cities currently dominated by the automobile. Would you rather have the freedom of a low maintenance machine? Brakes or no brakes: you decide, this has to be cycling in its purest form. Now spawned from the courier riders’ need for an uncomplicated workhorse, to be used daily without the need for new cables, brake pads or expensive drive train parts. Flowing in and out of the urban sprawl has become an art form, from the clothes that they wear, to the skill needed to pilot a fixie on the intimidating city streets. You too could become a part of this subculture."**

    Ouch.

I find it astonishing that a mainstream manufacturer could write this.

Agree, suggesting it is okay to break the law is an odd stance from as you say a mainstream company.

Cheers kvik. I've updated to the 2010 info where advisable.

Although it does sound like it's from a big company. It sounds exploitative and crass, and is poorly written.

Giant did exactly the same when the Bowery appeared. Giant (with the Bowery) and Specialized (with the new Globe thing) have stock-shots of their bikes without brakes... and they're definitely not track bikes.

  • did someone had a glance on the 2010 Felt Brougham, looks great and has not too bad specs....
could imagine to go for it....

  • if you like it, just go and try it out.

  • The bmx brand subrosa has also just announced they are releasing an OTP bike, it looks ok deffinetely compatition for charges. retails in the states for $650

  • Not really 'just announced'. The Evans website already lists them a 'discontinued'.

...maybe because it ships setup with 80GI and flat pedals and stretchy chain.
