samS, at least you're your own person. Whatever bike you have, OTPs are considered the lesser cousins of the Fixed/SingleSpeed world. But you know what? My bikes are OTP so I obviously don't feel that its essential to impress others.
Just enjoy your bike mate. Over time, you may bling it, or move upmarket to something more custom than OTP. Its your choice.
Generally, Langsters are considered the Ford's of the SS world. My Bowery is of similar ilk; but I have a feeling that the abilities are very similar. Bob Jacksons, Mercians, Bob Mathers, and European or Japanese frames built up to full bikes, are the currency for the cognoscenti (ie. the Ferrari's so to speak). Me? I just like cycling with the one gear. I see you've been around a month or so - welcome.

Has anybody noticed that SE Racing Draft or Lager are only £240 or £250 from Triton Cycles??!! Ideal cheap route into SS cycling, or as a back up bike, or even a polo bike, if the fork is changed.
Super bargains.

quite tempting actually, thought I really want the Schwinn Cutter to come over the Pond.
-
• #184
actually I just managed to find an SE Draft for under £200.

I think newbies need to made aware though, that most of us buy (or build) bikes for simplicity and the lesser weight.
The 2008 SE Draft is 27lbs. Which is as heavy as a fully kitted tourer. Its also plain gauge steel, as the Charge Plugs are. Reliable frames, but the trade off for cost, is plain guage tubing, which is heavy.
Better for newbies to ask around, even if we're rude in answering, its a free country, so being rude is allowed.
IMO, a cheap back up bike shouldn't have too many fussy considerations, apart from looks, or functionality. Not often will both be found at a cheapish price. Thats my 2p.
Super cheap find Ed. And if its cheap enough to convert some folk away from geared commuting, then its still for the good.

I got a Langster for my first fixed wheel, because it was a popular bike, I figured it was a safe option as I didn't know a lot about fixed wheels at the time, I had thought of building up my own from scratch as so many have done, but i'm gonna keep it, for exactly the reason you state, I like the idea that my bike is probably the most common available, yet it can still show the £1k+ bikes who's boss (performance-wise), it doesn't matter what bike you have, so long as you enjoy it, in that regard, my bike is perfect.

Put that coat down, its mine.
Now go walk around outside naked in the snow.
:))
Still, thanks for the reminder, because I had a read-back, and sebby78 had said that Strada Cycles (a good shop, that I'll add to the shops list), were selling the Salsa Casserole in the UK. They sell it frame only, and they also sell as their own OTP (with their selection of standard parts), and call it the Strada Fixation.

Condor have put the prices up on the Pista and Potenza by £50, i just noticed.

I'm going to include bikes up to £900,oo now.
The Marin Ignacio, is a bike I've not understood at all. Its immensely boring to look at, and costs an arm-bending £850(approx). However, its when looking at its spec, that I find, that its the only OTP I can think of that is Triple-Butted in the frame, and again Triple-Butted in the fork. Finally the price is explained. Still high for what it is though.

Felt Dispatch 2009
Much much much better. As sold by CycleStore. Needs a white saddle, or white seatpost though. But you may disagree.
I was WRONG(!!) about the effect of losing the top tube protector. It didn't have one. Too many Felts!
Compare the 2008 version

This is mostly for Edscoble......
The Schwinn Cutter, is finally going to make it over here. £299 maximum (so far).
I didn't think much of it at first, but the looks are growing on me.
Its also plain guage steel, so its no lightweight.
