Hi All
I guess i may get flamed for such a post, but what the hell
I need a new fixie and have £500ish, it is for winter training and commuting and generally going to be a workhorse of a bike. I am also intending to do things like the next M25 Orbital and the Rapha Hell of the North next year.
My preference is for full steel F+F or possibly steel frame with carbon fork & SP
My attention is drawn to the Dawes Mono (2010 model @ £360ish now) anyone have better suggestions?

you know what to do.
find them, take them out for a test ride, repeat until you find one you like.

Or get an old road bike and convert it, work exactly the same, with £500 you can get it sorted properly;

^ I agree with this, then you can build one with everything you need for whatever your budget. And, nothing beats the feeling of doing it yourself :)

Get a Steamroller.

Hi, new to the site.. I have searched and looked on the OTP lists and cannot see any BREV M OTP bikes... apols if I am being an idiot and not spotting them...
Looking for my first Fixed Gear bike.. for my mainly flat 25ish round commute everyday.
I saw a lovely looking bike on the way home.. looked it up and it appears to be BREV M SPECIALE LTD 2011 (Pearl White)...Is anyone familiar with these? I like the older style frames which this kind of resembles but it looks quite different too... albeit with quite lary gold sht all over it!!
Open to all suggestions up to the £550/£600 mark.. From what i can read I am looking at Kona Paddy Wagon, this Brev M one, possibly a Bianchi Pista... (Not that keen on the Fuji Track) but am sure there are countless others that i have not seen yet....
Please, all suggestions welcome and again - sorry if i have not spotted the Brev M info on the forum if already posted elsewhere. Thanks!

FYI done some digginf and it appears BREV M are basically just MASI and the bike is identical to this:
http://www.athenscyclepath.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=c_750_Masi_Speciale_Fixed_LTD_Drop&cat=72Just with different stickers.... Anyone on here able to tell me if that looks liek a good value bike to start fixed gear riding on?
Looks like they are going for £540 here...

2 bikes. One, is possibly the cheapest OTP I've seen, and the other is quite a classy addition to what is available already.
The Coyote Tra-Fix is a mere £179.95, and the Wilier Toni Bevilaqua is £599.00.

I'm looking for a cheap entry to single speed riding just to test the water over the winter. Any suggestions welcome as to what I should look at. S/H preferred as I'd like to build something nice next year if I get on well with it and I'd like to be able to move it on without losing too much?
Thanks in advance

- Work out what size you are
- Think about what is important to you - speed, strength, comfort, etc.
- Utfs - http://www.lfgss.com/thread9085.html
...then buy a second hand fuji track or specialised langster.

At the risk of continuing the thread when the definitive list has been posted - if you're planning on building something, why not just start reading around and build something over the winter?
It's what I did - half-way through my first build.

I have a gorgeous 52cm Condor Pista going for £500. You won't lose much on that.

^ if that's for a whole bike and it's in your size buy it.
Brilliant bikes! Any the frame is of a high enough quality that any upgrades will be worth it.

Shame my thread was deleted and added here. I was hoping for some useful advice for a first timer not a list brand new bikes or of 24 pages of posts to traul through. Having just completed my 2nd build of the year I was hoping for some advice on finding a cheap s/h bike.
I'll need around a 56cm. Thanks for the suggestion of the fuji or langster - where would they fit in the speed strength comfort spectrum?
As for £500, that ain't what I'd call cheap as I was hoping to get something under £200 ideally and then to build my own next year. Built a £2500 hardtail and £4,500 full sus mtb this year already and wanted to keep this one sensible Also just want to get out and ride after a longish illness and no riding for almost 3 months.
Thanks for the helpful posts.

So i got a pretty crappy factory track frame from an auction. After fixing it up it has cost me about £250 and allready stuff is falling to pieces and everything chain reacts and just costs more money. So I am hoping to look into a new ride after the crimbo cash from grannys and uncles. What do people think of the Charge Plug? What better alternatives are there in this price range? (300-400) and what do I need to look at when buying a fixie for commuting to collage and in and out of town. I hope someone can help me out in this strange land of fixies (I ride road bikes for a club and race etc.) Cheers!

there is a new bike brand called Worx bikes who do a fixed/free and sturmey-archer 2speed version of their bikes.
bikes seem a cut above the competition for the money. the full site/webshop isn't up and running yet but you can see the pics of the bikes.
i tried the 2 speed version and was a bit dismissive at first but it works really well and if i you have a lot of hills or headwinds then it would be ideal if you don't fancy going fixed.disclaimer i did some photography work for them but am not on commission.
G.can you update the 1st post with a link?

-
• #1173
Pls does anyone have any hands on experience with / know about the VIVA bike brand / bikes? Three of their pista range are in the >1000 yet I can't really find anything on them. The Pista 2 is 479 at evans at the moment....
Would appreciate any comments?

They've been discussed in this thread. The word is that the frames are a bit flexy.
-
• #1175
Ah they have? Using the search on such a unspecific word didn't yeild that great results, I'll troll through backwards I guess.
Flexy in a I-normal-don't-ride-a-steel-bike way or... actually-its-going-to-break way? If you remember?
Thanks!
Big Dave go buy a Surley Steamroller and be done with it. Best bike at that price, you won't need to replace anything to suit you (probably) and the thing will stay great long after your taste has moved onto something else. You could look for a Charge of some description, but a steamroller will reveal your good taste/knowledge.
Unless you wanted something with gears in which case I have no fucking idea and anyway wrong forum.
